CHAPTER 12
ADAM’S POV ‘S POV
Sitting in my office, I feel like a donkey. This is the twenty–third candidate I am interviewing to fill in Aria’s position and none of them seem to fit in her shoes. I sit and ponder, why am I even searching for someone who will be literally just a replacement for Aria?
She is gone from this company and I should at least search for someone who is different from her, but it seems that she has become a habit of mine. I realize that I shall never be able to get over her and now I feel weak. I, Adam Miller, who has always been above everyone, including Aria, seem to be at her mercy.
I have still not heard from her after a week and I have been expecting her to come begging me to take her back, but until now, nothing! This is really frustrating. I keep asking myself if she has not found another man and forgotten about me completely.
Ever since she left the company, I have had a messed up life. I was the CEO of Miller Corporation and to me, all employees should have the same status in my eyes. Many come and leave, so why is Aria’s absence disturbing me
to the core?
I stare down at the resumes I have been receiving, but of no match to Aria. I decided not to conduct any more interviews today. I am finally giving up! All I want is to try and reach Aria on her phone, to check what she has been up to. Alas! The number is again disconnected. I think by now she must have gotten herself a new number or maybe a new life…
No!!! This can’t happen. I shall not let that happen!
Suddenly, my gaze shifts to the photograph on my desk. I have never had a close look at this picture. I do not even remember how it landed on the corner side of my huge desk Yes! It was in the corner and no one would have even noticed. The frame was not that big.
I lift the frame and bring it closer to me. It is our wedding photo and Aria is looking elegant. Her smile could bring happiness to anyone and right now, I am missing it. I have always envied her for her positivity and aura. Despite the rocky marriage and my indifference, she has managed to gather herself and swim with the waves.
I touch the photo, fondling her face as if she is right in front of me. I have never been affectionate towards her because of the contempt I hold in my heart for her. This woman has always been my backbone. She has been my support — not only in my business but at home. 2
Whenever I needed her, she was there for me. I was cruel, she was compassionate, I was fire, she was water, I was selfish, she was altruistic and I was the brain, she was the heart. I was submerged in the past when my assistant knocked on the door.
Through the glass, I signal him to step in.
“Boss! This envelope just came in for you,” he says as he hands me an envelope.
As I read the name I find that it is from Aria. Therefore, without wasting any second, I open the envelope to check the content. To my disconcertment, Aria has dared to send me the signed divorce papers which she had warned me
about when she left our house.
“What happened, boss?” my assistant asks me as he notices me frowning.
I quickly glance at the mailing address and request my assistant to track it down. He stares at it, types it in the G**
*e search from his phone and then says regretfully.
“Boss, this is a fake address. It doesn’t even exist.”
CHAPTER 12
+25 DONUS
Boiling with rage, I fling the document on the desk. My assistant is used to my sour mood and he tries to make me feel better, but what he does not know is that he is making it worse.
“May I remind you that you have a date with Miss Sophia tonight at the Alexandria Restaurant?”
I nod in annoyance instead of giving a reply, because perhaps, something foul will come out.
I see the guy still waiting for more directives. 1
“Remove all the hotel restrictions I’ve laid on Aria… Also, inform the general managers to let me know immediately as soon as Aria is spotted!” 1
