CHAPTER 21

ARIA’S POV

+25 BONUS

Leaving the party amidst stunned silence, I can’t shake the sense of satisfaction knowing that Eva is finally getting what she deserves. Adam’s silence in the aftermath of my confrontation with her speaks volumes, a tacit acknowledgement of his inability to defend me against his own family

With Regis by my side, we leave it all behind us, not once looking back. But today, as I face a new day, the weight of my circumstances bears down on me. Despite my desire for independence, I am tethered to a reality where my autonomy is limited by the terms of my marriage

Adam’s decree regarding my salary serves as a constant reminder of the power dynamics at play, a stark contrast to the illusion of equality we are meant to uphold. As much as I yearn to break free from these constraints, I am ensnared by the tangled web of obligation and expectation that surrounds me

I am completely absorbed in my thoughts, when Regis enters my room. Lately, he has been coming all the time, to check on me after lunch. What I like about him is that he always respects my privacy, although I am in his house

I feel comfortable here, yet uneasy because I feel like I am burden on him. The poor guy is back after years and all I am doing is giving him trouble

All good?Regis asks

Just worried”

an

Regis looks at me for a moment, wondering what is on my mind

What’s bothering you, Aria?”

I’ve been staying here for way too long.”

The fact that I have been working for Adam for so long and all my salary went into Grandma’s treatment, leaving me with nothing, except a father I did not know exist before in inheritance

What is that supposed to mean?”

As I observe Regis leaning against the door, his arms folded over his chest, I can’t help but wonder about his intentions. Does he genuinely want to hear me out? His posture exudes a sense of patience and openness, a silent invitation for me to share my thoughts and feelings

Regisattractiveness is undeniable, his presence commanding attention with ease. But it is not just his physical appearance that draws people init is his radiant personality, the way he carries himself with confidence and warmth.

ம்

As I prepare to speak, I find myself drawn to him, captivated by the sincere interest reflected in his eyes. With a deep breath, I begin to elaborate, trusting that he is someone I can confide in

I need to look for a job and be independent.”

Regis keeps staring at me and then a smile curls up

You can stay here as much as you want and leave when you start a new life.”

Knowing Regis, I should not be too adamant about leaving right away. I smile back at him in gratitude

I’m forever grateful to you.”

The conflict between searching for a job and actually going for an interview is profound. It is a challenge that is amplified for someone with high qualifications and years of experience in their field. The weight of expectations, the pressure to performit is all magnified in those crucial moments leading up to the interview

As I navigate this daunting process, the uncertainty gnaws at me, each rejection feeling like a blow to my confidence. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging from hope and excitement to fear and selfdoubt

But amidst the uncertainty, there is also a glimmer of determination, a resolve to persevere despite the obstacles in my path. With each interview, I steel myself for the challenge ahead, drawing upon my qualifications and experience as I strive to make a lasting impression

Though the journey may be fraught with setbacks and disappointments, I refuse to let them define me. I hold onto the belief that somewhere out there is the opportunity that will recognize my worth and value my contributions

As I ponder the string of rejections, a nagging thought creeps into my mindan unsettling suspicion that there may be more to them than meets the eye. The pattern seems too consistent, too calculated to be a mere coincidence

And then, like a bolt from the blue, Adam’s face flashes before me. Could he be somehow involved in these rejections? The notion sends a chill down my spine, shaking me to my core. It is a disconcerting thought, one that I am hesitant to entertain, yet unable to dismiss entirely

As my phone rings and Stella’s name flashes on the screen, I feel a surge of anticipation mixed with apprehension. Her request for every detail from the night of the event catches me off guard, but I understand her curiosity

Taking a deep breath, I launch into a detailed narration, recounting the events of the evening with as much clarity and precision as possible. With each word, I can sense Stella’s keen interest, her probing questions hinting at the depth of her concern. However, she tells me that I did the right thing in tackling Eva and Adam

I apologize for the dress that has been spoilt, but Stella tells me that it is not my fault and I don’t need to feel bad about it. But she can tell that something is bothering me, and she keeps asking me what’s wrong.

It’s so hard to get a job,I finally tell her

Why don’t you join my company?”

Stella’s proposal surprises me

I’m going to be fine, don’t worry, Stella.”

Oh, come on! You’re a valuable asset and it’s a shame Adam didn’t see that!”

Thinking about Stella’s proposal, I readily agree to be part of her company. Let me give it a try
