CHAPTER 25
EVA’S POV
I recall that day when things turned upside down for me at the event.
“What did you do?” Adam asks me after he checked the security footage. He is livid, his fist clenched tight like he is about to hit me. He has never been this harsh to me. Now he yells at me for that lowly ex–wife of his!
In a moment of carelessness, I had messed up with Aria. Desperate to avoid the consequences, I had tried to shift the blame onto Aria.
I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. It seemed that my brother was becoming more discerning, especially after Aria’s departure.
The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. My attempts to manipulate and deceive might no longer be as effective as they once were. Without Aria around to serve as a convenient scapegoat, my brother was no longer falling for my tricks so easily.
It was a sobering awareness, one that forced me to confront the consequences of my actions. Perhaps it was time for me to reassess my approach and consider the true value of ethics in my relationships..
That day, after Aria splashed wine at me and left the party, Adam became more furious.
“If it wasn’t Aria’s fault, she wouldn’t have retaliated?”
“But Adam… She is only trying to bring me down.”
As Adam’s gaze settled on me, I could feel the weight of his disbelief bearing down on me like a leaden weight. It was a moment of stark conciousness, a silent acknowledgement of the gravity of the situation and the impact of my actions.
The intensity of his stare sent a shiver down my spine, the silent accusation hanging heavy in the air. I could sense the disappointment and betrayal radiating from him, a painful reminder of the trust I had broken and the bond I had damaged.
“Why would she do that?”
“What?! You don’t believe me any more?!”
Despite my best efforts to convey sincerity through my tone and expression, Adam remains unfazed. It was as if a barrier has been erected between us, impervious to my attempts to bridge the gap.
In that moment, I felt a sense of helplessness wash over me; no matter what I said or did, I might never be able to regain Adam’s trust.
“Now go apologize to Aria, or else!”
Yeah, now I knew I had crossed the limits. Adam looked pissed.
It was clear that my brother held principles in high regard, and he was not willing to compromise his principles for anything, even in the face of difficult circumstances.
But I was no saint.
“You can just let it pass, no?”
“No, not this time, Eval“)
He was furious and I flinched.

I had been pampered by him and my mother since I could ever remember. All these years, I had been able to manipulate both of them, but now, it was not working. The bitch was gone, but left something to Adam. Honesty.
“There won’t be any allowance for you for a month!‘
This was what actually happened and the consequences I had to bear today. Just when I wanted to show off in front of this lowly Aria. Adam messed up my plans.
Keeping the issues with Adam hidden from Aria was my intention, but now it seems inevitable that the truth will come to light.
Hence, I decide to text my brother secretly and get him to make the payment for me so that I don’t lose face, but he has been acting like a real asshole.
*Adam. I am at the Tiffany Store. Please, unblock my card NOW.”
However, my heart pounds as soon as I see Adam calling me. I have to pick up the call.
“What’s going on, Eva? Why are you irritating me?”
“Please. I’m at the store and I need to buy these dresses.”
I hear Aria and her stupid friend giggling.
She wanted to buy those dresses, now karma hit her!” {
Aria’s loud voice triggers my anger, and I find myself unable to control my emotions.
“Is that Aria with you?”
My brother heard her! She must have done that on purpose.
“No… Yeah. Okay, bye!”
Without waiting for Adam, I abruptly end the call and turn to face Aria, my hands planted firmly on my hips and my eyes ablaze with anger.
“Oh, poor you. Who’s the beggar now?!”
The realization washes over me like a sudden wave, crashing against my consciousness with starting force Aria has been privy to my private conversations, giving her an unfair advantage that she is now using against me.
“Shut up, you bitch!”
Just when I am about to slap Aria, I see my brother at the door of the store.
Did he come to pay for the dresses himself or for some other reason?
