Chapter 5
Immediately after our divorce, Nolan married Andrea.
He proudly displayed his “happiness” on his Instagram: [All shall be well, Jack shall have Jill.]
It was accompanied by a photo of himself, Andrea, and their
son.
In the picture, Nolan looked gaunt–his cheeks hollow, dark circles under his eyes–but his face radiated pride and joy.
Their son, whom I’d last seen in court, had grown so chubby I could barely make out his features.
A few people offered polite congratulations.
Nolan replied: [My son is already two years old. Thank you all for your blessings.]
[And thanks to my wife Andrea for giving me a son to carry on the family line. Unlike someone who’s barren.]
The jab at me was obvious.
Though I usually kept my temper in check and avoided arguments, I wouldn’t let this sarcasm slide.
I commented: [We divorced one week ago, yet your child is

already two. Impressive efficiency.]
His congratulatory friends quietly deleted their comments.
Provoked, Nolan shot back: [You’re just jealous that Andrea gave me a son!]
I replied with an eye–roll emoji.

Half a month later, Nolan sent me a wedding invitation. “You’re welcome to attend my wedding with Andrea,” he wrote.
The venue was the prestigious Moonstone Hotel–an expensive choice. I wondered how they could afford it after just repaying
- me.
I didn’t attend but sent a gift through a friend: a candleholder, matching what Nolan had given my bridesmaids at our wedding.
That night, Nolan bombarded me with angry voice messages, hurling insults about my “shamefully cheap” gift.
Apparently, he finally understood how embarrassing a cheap gift could be.
I blocked him without responding.
The next day, my friend who’d delivered the gift called to complain. “Selena, you won’t believe how cheap Nolan really is.
“All that show of wealth, but the wedding food? Just sandwiches and stale pizza!

“I gave them a 500–dollar gift for this garbage? Even animals wouldn’t eat it! You definitely made the right choice divorcing him!”
Worse still, his drunken groomsmen had harassed the bridesmaids. Instead of intervening, Nolan and Andrea had dismissed the women as “unable to take a joke” and “too
sensitive.”
The bridesmaids later took to Instagram, sharing their horrible experiences and denouncing the newlyweds throughout the night.
How pitiful.
A few days later, another friend visited me, gleefully reporting that Nolan’s reputation was in tatters.
A reporter had picked up the bridesmaid harassment story, and someone had seized the moment to leak our divorce court video
to the media.
The public discovered not only had the couple condoned the vulgar harassment of bridesmaids, but both had cheated on their previous spouses. Outraged social media users showed no
mercy.
After their addresses were exposed, extreme critics vandalized their home with paint and sent threatening packages. The family of three fled to a motel, too frightened to return home.

“Thankfully,” my friend added, “whoever leaked the court video had the decency to blur your face, keeping you out of this mess.
“Yes,” I smiled. “How thoughtful of that guy.”
