Chapter 5
Facing the doubts and jeers, Roy calmly grabbed the microphone and locked eyes with Karen. “Karen and I are not like what you think. We’re the real deal, madly in love. Back in our college days, we had the hots for each other and swore we would get married someday.
“We’d planned to finish our wedding right after graduation. But then, the Morrison Group hit a rough patch financially, and Gloria’s dad strong–armed my dad into marrying me off to Gloria.
“I tried every excuse in the book, but Gloria’s possessive streak had her dead set on making me her man. Later, she even went back on her words and cracked down on the Morrison Group.
“For thousands of the employees of our company and my dad’s plea, I had no choice but to fail Karen.”
However, netizens were not so easily fooled.
[What about that kid? Did it mean you still had affairs with two women at the same time after marriage?]
Roy heard this and promptly explained in a firm tone, “Definitely not. Frank’s birth was an accident. After I married Gloria, Karen, not wanting to disturb us, left on her own initiative but found herself pregnant three months later. Later, Alan fell in love with Karen at first sight and didn’t care that she

was pregnant. He even proposed to her.”
The crowd below erupted, their jaws dropping at the soap opera–level drama unfolding.
As I listened, I couldn’t suppress a chuckle. This guy had the nerve to spin such a tale full of holes, a real whopper of an excuse. He must’ve thought we were all suckers, easy to fool.

Maybe he figured he had the upper hand and thought he could cook up stories willy–nilly.
After all, nobody dared to call the big shot’s bluff.
The netizens split down the middle.
One camp was swooning over Roy’s supposed sincerity. Sticking by a disabled first love for two decades was some serious dedication, rare as a hen’s teeth.
The other side wasn’t having it, pointing out that these two lovebirds were so lost in their so–called love that they didn’t give a damn about my feelings all these years. Their love sacrificed my life, yet they still had the gall to blame me and force me to hand over all the shares to Frank. Everyone agreed that their behavior was downright despicable.
Roy saw the comments turning sour, so he quit explaining and yanked Frank over to Karen, saying sternly, “Frank, your real mom’s been waiting for you for over two decades. It’s high time you went back to her.”

But Frank shoved Roy’s hand away and sneered, “I won’t call some despicable woman my mom. My mom’s the one and only, and her name’s Gloria. As for you, you sly fox, I won’t acknowledge you as my dad.”

The place fell silent, everyone gaping at Frank, stunned that he’d turned his back on his birth parents. They figured maybe the day’s events had shaken him so bad he’d lost his marbles.
Roy paled and shoved Frank. “How dare you defy me? I’m gonna beat you up…” Then, he raised his hand threateningly.
Just then, a booming voice cut through the air. “You lay a hand on my son, and you’ll regret it!”
All eyes turned to the source of the voice.
A tall, dapper figure in a beige windbreaker strode into the spotlight.
Seeing that familiar grin, I couldn’t help but smile.
This guy finally knew his son mattered more than his career.
Sure, he was a bit tardy, but he was still a sound man.
Noah Vincent approached me with an apologetic smile. “Gloria, sorry, I’m late. Are you mad at me?”
I rolled my eyes and pretended to be peeved, saying, “I have never seen you on time for our meetings since I met you. If you’re late by another ten minutes, I’ll keep your identity secret

from Frank forever.”
