Chapter 6
Noah immediately cracked a smile and said to me, “This will be the last time I’m tardy. I promise, no more lateness from now on, cross my heart.”
At that very moment, someone spotted Noah.
“Isn’t that Noah, the whiz in mechanics?”
“Yep. I heard the missile he’s working on has been a game–changer for our aerospace industry.”
“I heard the bigwigs of the country even rolled out the red carpet for him. He’s usually as rare as hens‘ teeth in public.”
“Hey, grab your phone! I’ll pose over there. You hold it steady and snap a pic of us together.”
“Whoa, no way. You gotta help me out here.”
The crowd got all riled up and surged towards Noah. But they were all held back by two burly bodyguards.
Noah flashed a subtle smile, waved his hand calmly, and told them to simmer down. Then, he strolled over to the microphone and said in a cool, collected voice, “Hey, everyone. I’m Noah. Have a seat first. I’ll get to your questions one by one.”
Someone piped up first, “Mr. Vincent, you said Frank is your

son? What gives?”

“How’d you meet Ms. Hawkins?” Another voice chimed in.
Noah listened to the barrage of questions with a grin. Finally, he raised his hand to cut in and said, “I already called the
police in on my way here. When they arrive, I’ll answer all your questions, one by one. It will be on the record, and we can avoid any hearsay that might cause a ruckus.”
Everyone nodded and praised him for being such a thoughtful
expert.
Within five minutes, the police showed up.
Roy handed over the paternity test to the officer first and said, “Officer, I just want my kid to be with his real family. Someone’s trying to bully us and take him away from me.” He glared at Noah with pure venom.
Karen added with a tearful expression, “They’ve kept my son away from me for twenty–five years. I’m not in the best of health, and God knows how much time I have left. All I want is to recognize my son and hear him call me Mom before I go.”
The officer turned to me and asked in a serious tone, “Did you
take their son?”
I snorted. I couldn’t believe Roy and Karen still weren’t showing any remorse in front of the police. After all, their plan back then was as tight as a drum. They were positive Frank was their flesh and blood, no questions asked.

Knowing it’d be tough to explain everything in a few words, I asked the officer to watch a video first.

The video was a bit dated, but it was as clear as the day after my touch–up.
In the video, Roy knelt gently in front of the wheelchair and held Karen’s hand, saying, “Karen, don’t you worry. I’ve planted our fertilized egg in her. In ten months, she’ll give birth to our baby. Then, the three of us can live happily ever after as a family.”
Roy said this while resting his head on Karen’s leg, still clutching her hand tight.
Karen stroked Roy’s head lovingly and said, “Roy, you’ve been so good to me. I don’t know how to thank you.”
“Karen, you don’t have to thank me. Back then, you used your charms to lure Alan away for me. To get rid of him, you even lost your legs. You’ve got my heart, and I’ll never let you down,” Roy said.
Roy said this while hugging Karen tightly and planting a kiss on her. They didn’t waste any time stripping down, out of breath with anticipation.
After what felt like an eternity, Karen lifted her flushed face and asked worriedly, “Roy, is this plan solid? Don’t let her suspect a thing. If she does, we’ll all be out on our ears from the Morrison family.”

Roy gently caressed Karen’s head and said, “Baby, don’t you worry. Once the fertilized egg was ready, I slipped some sleeping pills in her red wine and tucked her in bed. She would think she
was carrying my child. She’ll never guess she’s just a surrogate for our baby.”
