Chapter 7
I suddenly thought of something, “Where is Janet, who has been running around near me with Charo just now?”
I searched everywhere but couldn’t find her.
It was not until I heard the exclamations of several children that I rushed over and saw Charo, who had been stabbed and was lying on the ground.

There was a piece of fabric tightly held in its mouth, and I took it out.
It was exactly the down jacket that Charlie was wearing when he came to see me last time.
I immediately rushed Charo to the pet hospital. Then, I got the community surveillance footage and called the police.
I waited anxiously at the police station, thinking, “How can I face Kayla if something happens to Janet?”
A policeman said, “We’ve found them. Lauren and Charlie have taken Janet to the seaside.”
Almost instantly, Lauren sent me a message: [If you want to save her, come to Sunny Coast.]
I rushed to the designated place with the police without a

moment’s delay.
The three of them were standing on the edge of a reef. Two morce steps backward andthey would fall into the sea.
Seeing that there were not many rocks in the sea, I felt a bit relieved..
However, Lauren washokiing a knife against Janet’s neck, and Charlie was tightly griming Janet’s two hands.
My heart was in my throattoneagain.
Lauren said to Charlie, “It’s bause ofher that your mom doesn’t want you.”
Charlie seemed to be brainwashedbyhteraand loudly questioned me following her words, “Mom, why doyouttake care of her instead of
me?”
The police signaled me to calin the two offthem down, and they began to act from behind the reef where the two couldn’t see.
I shouted, “Charlie! Char, let Janet go, and Illcomeback to take care
of you.”
“Really?” asked Charlie.
Seeing that Charlie was wavering, Lauren started to famthefflames again, saying, “If she cared about you, she wouldn’t have left you behind back then.”

Charlie said, “That’s right. You’re lying. You only like her and don’t want me. That’s why you left me alone back then.”
“Don’t listen to Lauren. I didn’t abandon you,” I said.
At this moment, a police officer came to whisper to the police chief, Xavier Green, beside me, “We’ve found out that Lauren bought a pack of illegal drugs. She and Charlie are likely high right now.”
They wouldn’t feed it to Janet, would they?
Lauren saw the panic in my eyes, and a look of triumph flashed in her eyes.
She lowered her head and said to Charlie seriously, “As long as you push her into the sea, your mom will be yours alone.”
“Mom will be mine. She’ll be mine alone,” shouted Charlie.
Before anyone could react, Charlie pushed Janet down hard.
But Janet, who had been silent all this time, suddenly clenched Charlie’s wrist and pulled him down forcefully.
And the useless man, Reginald, arrived right at this moment.
Seeing Charlie and Janet fall into the sea, I finally let out a sigh of
relief.
Although Janet was young, she was good at swimming and diving.

Moreover, I found that there were no rocks under that reef, and there were many police officers nearby.
Compared to Lauren, who was holding a knife and emotionally unstable, falling into the sea and being rescued was the safest thing for Janet.
I originally wanted to rush over immediately to check on Janet’s situation, but Lauren stopped me.
She put the knife against her neck, saying, “Michelle, don’t move. If you take one step, I’ll kill myself.”
If she wanted to commit suicide, that was her business.
I was just about to leave when I saw Xavier’s pleading eyes.
Helplessly, I could only stand still.
Lauren shouted, “You’ve ruined my whole life. It took me so much effort to kill my damned ex–husband. I used so many tricks to push you away. Why did you come back?”
I said, “I never thought of coming back to compete with you.”
Xavier signaled me to talk less and not stimulate her.
It made me notice that there were already police officers climbing up the reef behind her, so all I had to do was listen to her vent and keep her calm.

Therefore, a group of us stood there listening to Lauren’s angry
shouts.
She said, “Reginald getting close to you is your fault. I asked someone to calculate it. As long as his fortune is bad, mine will be good.

“When his fortune was bad, my gambling debts didn’t come after mee for so long.
“But as soon as he got close to you, his fortune changed for the better. When his fortune got better, my fortune turned bad.
“Those unpayable gambling debts came back to me again. What’s the point of my life?”
As soon as Lauren finished speaking, she was subdued by the police, who climbed down from the reef.
At this moment, I could finally answer her question, “You gamble voluntarily. It’s only natural to pay back debts. It has nothing to do with fortune, right?”
“How could it not? If not, why did Reginald get in touch with you again?” asked Lauren.
Reginald suddenly rushed forward to refute her. “I did that because I missed Michelle.”
Lauren shouted, “I know everything. You secretly had someone calculate it. You finally find out that Michelle brings you good luck. But it’s too late.”

The police told Lauren that she was suspected of embezzling public funds, illegally kidnapping a child, and buying, selling, and using illegal drugs, and she would be taken back to the police station for interrogation.
Lauren suddenly became excited and pointed at Reginald, shouting, “I learned embezzling public funds from him. If I hadn’t seen him do it, how could I have learned it?”
