Chapter 135
“Stop. Alistair, Please don’t do this.” Audrey clung tightly to Alistair from behind her arms wrapped firmly around his waist.
She went on, her voice soft yet pleading. Don’t dirty your hands for him. My phone fell back in the house, and it has recordings… enough evidence to file a report. Let the police handle the rest, okay?”
Alistair, who had been nearly blinded by rage, began to calm down at her words
“Alright” His reply was low and steady as he turned to lift Audrey into his arms. “Let me take you home.”
Before they left. Alistair gave Michael a pointed look, signaling him to finish falling the sinuation.
Michael still stunned by how Alistair had nearly lost control over a woman, then managed to rein it in for her sake. He nodded after a moment’s hesitation
With Audrey in his arms. Alistair walked toward a sleek black Bentley parked by the roadside, where a driver Audrey didn’t recognize waited.
Just as they climbed into the car, the wail of police sirens filled the air, growing louder as the Bentley brushed past the incoming police vehicles.
Meanwhile, Layla, dressed in new clothes and with her hair carefully styled, arrived at Ethan’s grand estate after a long bus ride, accompanied by her two sons. She knocked on the door, and a servant in her forties showed them in.
The servant’s expression was less than welcoming. After watching them put on plastic shoe covers, she said curtly. “Mr. Wright is still resting. You’ll
have to wait here”
With that, she turned away to resume her duties, not even offering them a glass of water.
William’s face darkened at the servant’s rude treatment.
Watching the woman’s retreating back, he spat in disgust and flopped onto the sofa like he owned the place, muttering in irritation. “Mom, the Wright family sure has no respect for us. Even their servant looks down on us
But Layla was too entranced by the luxury around her to care. Her eyes shone as she took in the lavish decor of the Wright Villa, awestruck by the wealth on display
Layla had heard plenty about the Wright family’s wealth, but seeing it with her own eyes still left her momentarily stunned.
They had such a massive estate, complete with an outdoor pool. Every ornament in the house seemed incredibly valuable. Even the cushions on the sofa had gold–thread embroidery. Picking up a pillow, Layla traced its edges fondly
If I could spend my later years in a place like this, I’d gladly give up a few years of my life, she thought. Once Audrey and Noah are married, ⠀⠀ maybe I can drop a few hints to get her to bring me here…
Liam, meanwhile, didn’t bother to sit. He wandered around the room, running his hands over the priceless furniture with a look of undisguised greed.
Hearing William’s complaints, Liam shrugged. “Come on, William. Don’t waste your time fussing over a servant. Once Audrey marries Noah, firing her would be as easy as snapping our fingers.”
William scoffed, saying no more. Spotting a bowl of fruit on the table, he grabbed a pear and bit into it, not even bothering to perlit
Damn, even the fruit tastes swerter in a rich family’s home, Liam thought to himself.
Up on the second–floor balcony, Ethan watched the group below with a faint look of disdain. What a pathetic bunch of lowlifes, he thought.
A servant quietly approached him from behind, her voice low and disapproving. “Mr. Wright, where did these people come from? They have no
Ethan turned
› thumb ring slowly, his voice chilling as he replied, “Mind your business and go make coffee for the guests“.
“Yes, sår” Shur dared not say another word.
After a deep breatla, Ellian put on a practiced smile and descended the stairs. “Mrs. Harper, you’re here! I had some things to take care of. Sorry for keeping you waiting” His tone was neutral, far from warın, but at feast it was polite.
Ethan had no oiler choice. With Noah’s track record, marrying and then driving three wives to an early grave, there was hardly anyone left willing to give their daughter’s hand in marriage.

But Lilan, being a traditional man, had always hoped his sons would settle down and lead respectable lives.
Besides, Ethan reasoned that if Noah got his thrills after marriage, it would still be preferable that he created scandals outside.
The Harper family’s greed was convenient, too. If anything happened, they’d be easy to appease
So, despite looking down on their character, Ethan had managed to show a measure of courtesy toward the Harper family for the sake of the impending union.
Layla, sensing the respect, was emboldened and flashed a self–satisfied smile. “Mr. Wright, you’re too kind. I apologize for dropping by unannounced, but we came today to discuss a date for the wedding. We’d like to finalize it soon.”
She continued. tone casual yet pressing. “After all, she’s already been sent to Noah’s bed, so we should hurry along with the formalities. It wouldn’t be good for Noah’s reputation if any rumors start circulating
Finalizing the wedding soon would allow them to plan a grand banquet back home.
Not only could they collect plenty of gifts to sell for cash, but they’d have a reason to eventually move to the city with Audrey.
The sooner this all happened, the better
Catching the thinly veiled threat in Layla’s words, Ethan curled his lip in disdain but replied smoothly, “The 17th of this month is an auspicious day.
Let’s set it for then.”
