Xavier pulled out his phone, clearly about to call his butler to send over 50 thousand dollars in
cash.
1 quickly stopped him.
“I know you want to help, but I don’t need it,” I said, my voice firm. “Giving him money will only encourage his greed and won’t solve the problem.”
I immediately dialed 911.
“Hello, Officer,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady, “I’m a student at Jadebrook College. Someone is pretending to be my dad and attempting to extort 50 thousand dollars from me.
The man lunged toward me, trying to snatch my phone away. I reacted quickly, throwing myself to the ground. I felt a sharp sting as my face scraped against the rough surface, leaving a trail of blood.
I cried out, pressing the phone to my ear. “Officer, please help! He’s attacking me!”
A crowd had gathered by now, and several classmates rushed to alert the library security. They quickly intervened, separating me from the man.
I immediately called my counselor, pleading for her to come and help me.
My counselor was a middle–aged woman, and her name was Carissa Sanford. She was known for her commitment to fairness and justice, and I trusted her completely.
The police and Carissa arrived soon after. The police officers confirmed the man’s identity— his name was Hugo Ziegler, and he was from Willowbrook. He had a criminal record and had been arrested multiple times for gambling and fighting.
I threw myself into Carissa’s arms, tears streaming down my face as I explained the situation.
“Please help me, Ms. Sanford. His surname is Ziegler, while mine is Sinclair. How could he possibly be my dad?”
I took a deep breath and continued, “And he asked for 50 thousand dollars the moment he saw me! I just turned 18! My tuition and living expenses come from the part–time job I worked during the summer. Where would I have that kind of money?”
เ
After further investigation, the police and Carissa confirmed there was no legal father- daughter relationship between us. It should’ve ended there, but then Xavier spoke up again.
“If there’s any doubt about the father–daughter relationship, a paternity test can clear it up. I’ll cover the cost.”
I immediately protested. “I don’t agree to a paternity test!”
I raised my voice, determined. “If he’s claiming to be my dad, it’s on him to provide the legal

documents to prove it. Otherwise, should I agree to a paternity test every time someone else claims to be my dad?”
I turned to the police officer and asked, “Officer, is it legal to force someone to undergo a paternity test?”
The police officer stepped forward, explaining the law. “A paternity test requires both parties to agree. A one–sided test isn’t legally valid.”
Relieved, I finally allowed myself to relax.
In the end, Carissa took me to the police station to clarify my family situation and pressed charges against Hugo for causing a public disturbance.
