Chapter 4
Five days later, Hugo returned with Ana. Upon entering, Rosa was immediately captivated by the dazzling necklace around Ana’s neck. She only took a glance at it before lowering her gaze. She hadn’t been wrong, the necklace was indeed a gift for her. What could Hugo have meant that he paused before speaking? In Hugo’s presence, Ana was always warm towards her, reaching out to take her hand. “Rosa, you must have been bored these days alone at home; I bought a lot of things, do you want to see if there’s anything you like?” With that, she took off her coat as she pulled Rosa towards a pile of boxes. Rosa shook her head and repeatedly declined the offer; Ana looked at her with a slightly reproachful look and an ambiguous tone. “Don’t be shy, accept this as a gift from your future aunt-in-law, okay?” Hearing the word “aunt-in-law,” Rosa raised her head involuntarily and immediately saw numerous kiss marks on Ana’s shoulders and neck, causing her to slightly startle. In one of the photos sent by Ana, one was aimed directly at the big hotel bed, at that moment Rosa didn’t understand why she had taken that photo. Now, seeing those ambiguous marks, she immediately understood and lowered her gaze without saying anything else. Ana, while opening the boxes, began to talk about the party that night. “Hugo, it’s Miss Laura’s adult party, we should bring Rosa too; they’re not too different in age, I’m sure they’ll get along.” Hearing about the party, Rosa was stunned. Ever since her parents died and she moved to Moon House, Hugo had never taken her to any party. There was no other reason, just some people enjoyed talking behind her back, criticizing her for depending on others. This time, Hugo still shook his head, disagreeing. Ana clung to his arm and began to make fun of him, insisting that it would be boring to go alone and she wanted Rosa to accompany her. Hugo didn’t insist any further and, with a gesture of indulgence, agreed. Watching how close the two of them were, Rosa lowered her head with a faint smile on her lips. In Hugo’s world, Ana was truly special, he put aside all the red lines he had kept in the past for her. It seemed that Hugo truly loved Ana. As long as he was happy, even if the person beside him was no longer her, Rosa could leave at ease. At the party, the glasses were constantly passing each other back and forth. Rosa stood alone in a corner, watching Hugo drink countless glasses instead of Ana, while she quietly drank her juice. A group of girls, giggling, passed by her and accidentally spilled red wine on her, repeatedly apologizing. She didn’t take it seriously and prepared to go to the bathroom to clean up. Before leaving, she passed her mobile phone and bag to Hugo. Ten minutes later, when she came back, she saw Hugo frowning and looking at her with a strange tone.“Maria just called asking for you, I said you were busy and would call back later.” Hearing Maria’s name, Rosa tensed up completely. Fortunately she didn’t hear anything about going abroad, which relaxed her expression noticeably. Hugo noticed her unusual reaction and couldn’t help but ask. “When did you get in touch with Maria?” “Two weeks ago, she asked me to send her some photos of the grandparents.” Rosa found a random excuse, and Hugo, relieved, didn’t suspect any more and turned to tidy up Ana’s messy hair. She retrieved her phone and bag and turned to return to her corner. The next second, a highly stacked champagne tower was knocked over, falling straight towards Rosa and Ana. “Careful!” Hugo, who was closest, instinctively pushed Ana to safety first, protecting her in his arms. Bang! With a loud noise, the champagne tower collapsed, hitting the motionless Rosa hard on the ground. Glass shards flew everywhere, Rosa was lying on the ground, blood gushing out rapidly, dyeing her white dress red, which was terrifying. This sudden accident scared everyone present, although Ana was not injured, she was crying. Seeing Rosa bloodied on the ground and Ana crying in his arms, Hugo only hesitated for a moment before making a decision. “Send her to the hospital.” He gave instructions to a nearby bodyguard and then carried Ana and left. Until both of them disappeared from sight, Rosa, under gazes full of pity, staggered to her feet. When she arrived home after treating her wounds, it was already 1 a.m. The doctor had given her several stitches and suggested that she stay at the hospital, but she refused the offer and took some medicine home. Hugo had not returned yet. She turned off the lights and lay on the bed, staring blankly at the dark ceiling. The burning pain all over her body kept her awake. Until three in the morning, she barely managed to close her eyes. Suddenly, the light in the living room came on. Hugo, soaked in alcohol, staggered up the stairs. He did not return to his room, but went to the last door, his old study, and gently opened it. Rosa, who was not sleeping peacefully, stirred and pulled at her wound, emitting a soft moan in her sleep. This slight sound was picked up by Hugo. He followed the sound to the bed, leaned down and hugged the person on the bed. One hand slid her pajamas down and rested on her soft, delicate waist. He lifted her chin with the other hand and kissed her directly.Rosa found a random excuse, and Hugo, relieved, didn’t suspect any more and turned to tidy up Ana’s messy hair.
