In the fall, Heather’s throat would often become dry and sore, so Mitchell had the restaurant manager send pears to all the people living nearby. He personally picked the best ones to send
to Heather.
The pears were returned untouched, along with message: Heather and Colin were getting married:
Mitchell didn’t react much to the news, but his reddened eyes betrayed his true feelings.
On the wedding day, Mitchell hid in the back of the crowd. After Colin recited his vows, Mitchell was the first to shed tears. From that moment on, the girl who had once loved him so deeply would never be his again.
As the years passed, Mitchell noticed Heather walking by the restaurant once more. This time, she had a slight bump in her belly, and Colin was nervously looking after her.
After Heather had the child, Mitchell adopted a young girl back home who resembled her in
many ways.
He had rushed back to work before fully recovering from his injuries, and no amount of medicine could undo the damage left behind.
But he kept traveling back and forth between Kennethville and Buleesia, and his health continued to decline.
He had made so many mistakes, but now, being able to see Heather from a distance, he felt strangely satisfied.
