I spent a week recovering in the hospital.
Joel tried to visit me several times, but Thomas chased him away every single time.
On the day I was discharged, Joel waited at the hospital entrance. He couldn’t hold back when he saw me and dropped to his knees.
He begged for mercy, “Mr. Siegel, I’m begging you to forgive me this once. Whatever punishment you want, just say the word! If you’re still angry, let Mrs. Siegel hit me herself -anything! Just please… Don’t treat me like this…”
I knew Joel had worked for Thomas as a driver for years. He was always loyal and faultless. Thomas had even spoken highly of him many times.
Unfortunately, his judgment failed him because he chose a woman like Haley.
Thomas looked at him without any emotion.
Joel, I spared you considering your years of service. Don’t push your luck. Get out of my sight and never appear in front of me again.”
With that, Thomas carried me straight to the car.
From the rearview mirror, I could see Joel still kneeling on the ground in anguish. Feeling a bit sorry for him, I couldn’t help but speak up.
“Honestly, this wasn’t entirely his fault. He had no idea-”
Thomas cut me off. His face was still cold.
“He’s where he is today because of me. I gave him the opportunities that brought him this far, and this is how he repays me. Forgiveness isn’t an option.”
He held me tighter, and his voice was firm.
As I leaned against him, I said nothing more.
Thomas was right; Everyone should face the consequences of their actions.
“As for those fools,” Thomas murmured as he looked down at me gently, “once you’re fully recovered, I’ll leave them for you to deal with.”
He knew me too well. I couldn’t fight my vengeful nature.
And he was right. I wasn’t about to let this go. Haley and her friends would repay in full what they owed to me.
But before I even had the chance to act, Haley sought me out. Wearing sunglasses and a mask to hide her swollen, bruised face, she asked to meet me at a nearby café.
