Chapter 18
Ethel laughed at Bambi’s naivety. “You might not even be able to afford tuition anymore if you follow your mother!”
She believed her granddaughter had no idea what awaited her in the future, and Ethel’s glare at Elara carried nothing but venom
“I want to see how a mere college graduate like you plans to raise Bambil Bambi doesn’t realize her life has already hit rock bottom. The gap between her and Beau is now an unbridgeable chasm.
“No matter how hard you try, Bambi will never reach the level Beau is destined for!”
Elara’s voice remained calm. “Both my children came from the same womb. If Beau has something, Bambi should
too.
“Since the Fisher family can’t treat them equally, I will take Bambi and help her grow into who she wants to be.
Elara turned to leave with Bambi when a group of people carrying briefcases walked into the auditorium. The middle–aged man leading the group wore a modest white shirt and black trousers.
Elara’s eyes narrowed. How coincidental–it was a familiar face.
“M–Mr. White?” James stammered in apparent shock.
Everyone else also turned to the entrance.
“It’s the secretary of education from the Department of Education!”
“But the competition is already over–why is he here?”
James and the other school board members rushed to greet him. “Welcome to our school, Mr. White.”
James smiled broadly. It seemed that the Little Environmental Guardian campaign that was broadcasted through the children’s channel had been a major success.
Even the secretary of education from the Department of Education, who had been on a business trip in Oaksville, felt compelled to show up.
Just as James was about to escort Desmond White to the stage, Desmond’s icy voice interrupted him. “I called you earlier, but you didn’t pick up, so I had to come here myself”
James‘ back broke out in a cold sweat. “I apologize, my phone… ran out of battery.”
Desmond waved off the explanation, and he simply asked, “What’s your plan for handling the situation that’s caused such an uproar online?”
James adopted a casual tone. “Oh, it’s really no big deal. The parents have already calmed down, and no one is arguing anymore.
“But rest assured, Mr. White, I’ll make sure something like this never happens again!”
Desmond’s expression darkened. His eyes flicked briefly toward Elara.
“James, if you want to prevent school board members from targeting parents and students, you need to take
concrete action.
“Summit Academy is one of the flagship schools in the Capitol, the pride of this city. Do you even know what’s being debated online?

“The public is accusing Summit Academy’s board members of blatant sexism and threatening students‘ parents.”
Noticing Desmond’s arrival, Ethel walked over with Beau in tow.
“Mr. White, this is my grandson, Beau Fisher. He has received accolades from the school every year since enrolling. He’s the best student here at Summit Academy!!
Although Beau didn’t win a star this time, she was determined to use this opportunity to show off to the secretary
of education.
“Madam Foster, you should voluntarily step down from your position as a board member,” Desmond said bluntly.
The smile on Ethel’s face immediately froze.
“Pardon me? What did you say?” She thought she must have misheard him.
“You’ve even made it to the headlines today. Haven’t you seen it?” Desmond’s tone was sharp. “Or do you want the Department of Education to issue a formal notice to dismiss you?”
Ethel’s complexion turned pale as the blood drained from her face.
Lowering her stance, she quickly tried to placate him, “Mr. White, I acted on impulse earlier. I will personally. apologize to the student and their parents right away!”
She then shot a glance at Elara, clearly unwilling to apologize to her.

Even so, the scene of Ethel scolding Bambi had been broadcast online, and it caught the Department Education’s attention. She now had no choice but to swallow her pride.
“I don’t think an apology will suffice,” Desmond said, his tone now colder than ever.
“You don’t even understand what you did wrong. All you know is that your time is up!”
