Chapter 38
Harvey rushed into the children’s room and saw Beau lying on the bed, and his body was covered in red rashes. He was having an allergic reaction again!
“Call Dr. Keller,” Harvey ordered with furrowed brows.
The staff hesitated. “Mr. Beau’s condition is serious! He might not make it in time for the doctor to arrive!”
Without a second thought, Harvey picked up Beau and sprinted to the garage.
By the time Harvey carried Beau out of the car at the hospital, the hospital director was already waiting at the entrance with a team of pediatric doctors.
“Mr. Fisher!” The director greeted him with the utmost respect.
Harvey placed Beau onto a gurney, and the nurses wheeled him straight into the elevator. One of the doctors loosened Beau’s collar and checked his pulse.
“Does Mr. Beau have any known drug allergies?” the doctor asked.
Harvey turned to Mary.
Mary stammered, “I–I don’t know!”
Lowering her head, she added softly, “Mrs. Fisher would know…”
Harvey gave a sharp command. “Call Elara.”
Mary looked visibly uneasy. “Mrs. Fisher already blocked my number.”
Harvey then turned to one of the nurses. “Give me your phone.”
The nurse blinked in shock. This man didn’t even remember his own wife’s phone number?
Mary quickly recited Elara’s number, and Harvey pressed the call button.
After a few seconds, a robotic female voice came through the speaker. “The number you dialed is currently unavailable.”
A suffocating silence filled the elevator. Eventually, Mary retrieved Beau’s recent medical records from Taylor. The doctor flipped through the documents, Inhaling sharply. “Four allergic reactions in ten days? Mr. Fisher, is this really your son?”
The lines on Harvey’s forehead deepened. “I wasn’t aware he had another reaction recently…”
The doctor sighed, understanding that Harvey was a busy man, but still, his frustration was evident. “Does the child have a history of drug allergies?”
Harvey once again turned to Mary.
Her voice trembled. “Only Mrs. Fisher knows that too…”
Elara was woken by relentless knocking. She opened the door to find Frank, the community manager, standing
outside.
“Ms. Jones, this is Mr. Fisher’s call. Please, you must answer it.”

Frank held the phone directly in front of her, the speaker already on. Harvey’s cold, steely voice came through.
“Beau is having an allergic reaction. He’s in the hospital. The doctors need to know what medications he’s allergic
to.”
Elara stood at the doorway, pulling her scarf tighter around herself against the cold night air.
“I compiled all of Beau’s medical records since the day he was born into a file and handed it over to Mary.”
Harvey’s piercing gaze landed on Mary like a blade.
Mary nervously clutched the fabric of her dress. “If you want me to search for it in the storage room now, I wouldn’t even know where to start! Mrs. Fisher, just tell the doctor directly what Mr. Beau is allergic to.”
Harvey added, “Just tell them.”
Elara’s voice came through the phone, crisp and unwavering. “One million dollars.”
“What did you just say?”
“Before I left the Fisher family, I handed over all of Beau’s medical records to Mary. I did everything a mother was supposed to do! I even instructed Mary to give you the documents to review.
“Mr. Fisher, did you ever take a look at them?”
Harvey fell silent. If he had gone through the records beforehand, he wouldn’t be calling Elara now.
Elara continued, her voice laced with mockery. “You had Frank wake me up in the middle of the night and force me to take this call.
“So,
Harvey Fisher, if you want your son’s medical information–pay for it!”
Harvey’s anger surged like a blade, cutting through the phone line. The air grew tense inside the examination room, and everyone held their breath.
“Elara Jones! Beau is your son!”
Elara’s voice remained cold. “Beau should already know what he can and cannot eat. The reason he ended up in the hospital is simple–because he never once saw me as his mother!”
