“They didn’t!” Callum’s eyes reddened as he retorted.
“I love you. I’ve only ever loved you.”
“Really?”
I let out a mocking laugh..
“Five years ago, the Kiplings sent her abroad because they discovered her unhealthy obsession with you.
“And yet, the moment she pleaded with you, you brought her back without a second thought. “You weren’t blind to Hannah’s feelings for you, I said coldly.
“Yet you chose to ignore it. You hid behind the façade of being ‘siblings‘ while doing things that only couples do.
“Worse yet, you enjoyed it. You liked having two women scheming for your attention.”
“No, that’s not true, it’s not…”
Exposed for what he truly was, Callum looked both anguished and humiliated, desperately trying to defend himself. But I didn’t give him the chance.
“You assumed I couldn’t live without the house or the illusion of a family you created for me, that I’d be too scared to leave you.
“But the night you chose to leave me burning with fever, alone in the middle of the mountain, so you could watch a meteor shower with Hannah, you were already dead to me.”
I had always been frail, even a minor illness hit me harder than most. He used to worry endlessly, wishing he could take my place or somehow give me his robust health.
But eventually, even my illnesses became an annoyance to him.
“It’s just a fever,” he’d said dismissively. “You’re not going to die.‘
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” Callum murmured, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I didn’t know you were that sick. I thought the distance was short, and you’d manage on your
own.
“I was wrong, Eloise. I know I was wrong. Please, for the sake of the five years we’ve loved each other, forgive me. I love you–I really do.”
But, Callum, your heart’s too big. You love me, you love Hannah, and above all, you love yourself.
You’re not worthy of me with that kind of love.
I cast him a look of pure disdain and called for the security guards to escort him away.
