Nadia felt she was being too kind. Mick wasn’t thinking clearly and had sent the clothes to the wrong person. It was her job to set things straight and minimize the damage.
As for whether the dress would upset Mick and make him furious with Mona, that wasn’t something she could control.
Soon, the event began.
Many parents went on stage with their children to dance or do a runway walk, and the room was filled with applause.
Nadia shifted her focus, watching the performances. She was impressed by how professional these parents were and was completely absorbed in the show.
On the other side, however, Mick was too distracted to pay attention to the event. He kept glancing at his watch. And then, he would sneak a look toward Nadia, who was still in the same spot.
Why hadn’t she gone to change yet? Was she waiting until the last minute?
By then, most parents would have taken their children to have some cake, and no one would have been watching them.
But then he thought about it. Nadia came from a rural background, so it made sense she didn’t understand the rules of these kinds of events.
Besides, when fewer people were around, they’d be able to talk privately. With that thought his expression relaxed.
But the next moment… His shoulder was tapped. He reluctantly pulled his gaze away, turning slowly, and his face immediately filled with shock
“Do you like it?”
Mona stood before him, wearing a fitted mermaid–style gown with a waistline that accentuated her curves. With her dress and curls, she was the picture of a real–life mermaid.
“It is a little small though. I think I’ve gained some weight recently.” She thought that Mick’s stunned expression was a reaction to her beauty, so she twirled again. “Which dance are we doing?”
The audience below casually chatted, and no one paid attention to them. It didn’t feel awkward
at all.
Ted, looking impressed, said, “Ms. Poole, you look so beautiful.”
It was a good thing Mona showed up. Otherwise, Ted would have had to go with the clown.
“Mick, children don’t lie. Were you too shy to compliment me earlier?”
Mick slowly came back to his senses, his expression returning to its usual calm, but inside, he was suppressing a growing rage.
“Where did this dress come from?”
He distinctly saw the sales associate heading toward Nadia earlier. He had only been distracted for a moment! How had things spiraled so far out of control?
Wait–Mona suddenly rushed off when that server came over earlier. Could it be that, at that moment, she had snatched Nadia’s dress?
In the past, he had thought it was flattering when two women fought over him, thinking it was a sign of his charm.
But today? He was furious–so furious it felt like his lungs might explode. He couldn’t help but feel a hint of resentment toward Mona.
Seeing his unreadable expression, Mona, aware of his attempt at feigning indifference, couldn’t help but laugh.
“It was from the server, okay? Stop pretending. I’ve already seen your card.”
She bent slightly, giving him a clear view of her figure.
“Remember, you said there would be consequences if you don’t dance with me. What kind of consequences are we talking about?”
She deliberately made her voice sweet and lowered it just enough to be seductive. Her words lingered in his ears, carrying an almost hypnotic charm.
