“Sorry, Katelyn. Mom and Dad were just worried about me. Even though Kevin came to see me, he didn’t go to see you. It’s not because he doesn’t care about you. We all love you. How about next time we let Mom and Dad attend your parent–teacher meeting?”
Ashley’s seemingly apologetic tone, which used to drive me crazy every time in my past life, is actually a way for her to show off. However, now I am completely unaffected.
“No need, this was the last parent–teacher meeting.”

The academic workload in Grade 12 was very heavy.

left me feeling chilled to the bone. “Mom, Katelyn,” Ashley said, holding a cup of coke and a plate of onion rings in her hands.

“Speak up, what’s the matter? I don’t think you’re here to enjoy a family gathering with me.”
Ashley withdrew her hand in frustration and said, “Mom, I still have classes. I have to go first. Katelyn, don’t be angry. I’m leaving now.
My mother hadn’t even spoken yet when she ran away.
“You, happily enjoying a meal, had to make it end on a sour note,” my mother reproached. It was them who were happy.
I was not happy at all.
The bell for class suddenly rang, and I got up without any hesitation, saying, “It’s okay. I’ll go to class.” My mother then hesitated for a moment before finally saying, “Come back home.”
These few words, like an electric current passing through the nerve
