Chapter 13
The night before the trial, I couldn’t sleep a wink.
Anxiety had me on edge.
Then I got a call from Gavin.
“I found Daisy Grant.”
Without wasting a moment, I rushed out the door.
Before I left, I called Lucas and gave him the tip.
I didn’t care if it was true or not. I wasn’t going to let this lead slip away.
The address led me to a school–Oliver’s school, to be exact.

It was summer break, so the campus was completely deserted.
When I got to the rooftop, Gavin was standing over Celeste, binding her with ropes and throwing her to the ground.
I scanned the area. No sign of Daisy.
“You lied to me!” I shouted, my frustration boiling over.
Gavin kicked Celeste a few times and then dropped to his knees in front of me.

“I’m not lying. I know where Daisy Grant is.”
I shot a glance at Celeste, writhing on the ground, clearly in pain.
“Then tell me! Where is she?”
But Gavin veered off–topic.
He knelt before me, his eyes pleading.

“I know you can’t forgive me right now. But I promise I’ll make it right. I’ll take care of you and Oliver. I’ll be the man you need. Just give me one more chance. I don’t want a divorce.”
He looked so sincere, almost desperate.
But those words–those exact same words–were what he said after Celeste died in my previous life.
I believed him then, and that was how I ended up dead.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t,” I said, my voice firm.
Gavin seemed to panic. He pointed toward Celeste.
“Look. I brought her to you. It’s because of her that our family fell apart. You can do whatever you want to her. Just please take me back!”
I turned my gaze back to Celeste.

I reached over and ripped the towel from her mouth.

“Where’s Daisy? And how do you know about her?” I demanded..
Celeste just stared at me, laughing uncontrollably, her voice shrill and unsettling.
I couldn’t get anything out of her, so I turned and walked away.
As I passed the police officers who were arriving, I heard the unmistakable sound of two bodies hitting the ground behind me.
When I stepped outside. I saw Gavin and Celeste sprawled on the ground together.
It seemed like a twisted version of the ending Gavin had been hoping for in my past life.
But this time, they were both filled with hatred for each other.
The next day, just before the trial began. the police finally found Daisy.
Desperate, I had them dig into every bit of surveillance footage and trace Serena’s movements leading up to her death.
That was when we discovered that Celeste had started following Serena a week before the incident.
She had been back a week earlier than me.

And it turned out Daisy had been hidden by Celeste the whole time.
When the trial was over, Oliver was acquitted.
I took him to buy two bouquets of flowers, and together, we went to Serena’s grave.
By chance, Alexander and Charlotte were there too.
In just a month, their hair had turned completely white.
The couple, no older than their thirties, now looked decades. older.
When they saw us, they both bowed their heads deeply, their faces blank with grief.
After Oliver laid the flowers down, he bowed deeply, not saying a word.
I looked up, and there, in the sky after the rain, a faint rainbow appeared, barely visible.
Too bad.
Such a beautiful sight.
Serena would never see it again.
