However, Jane, who rushed over, interrupted me, “Aurora! Nathan dumped you because he’s going to marry me. So, knowing that I’ve been after Quinton for years, you deliberately got close to him to get back at me, didn’t you?! You’re so despicable!”
Nathan was stunned. He tried to soothe Jane while shooting me a menacing glare.
He assumed I had told her about my relationship with him.
“It was just a deal between her and me. I don’t have feelings for her. I’d never marry a woman who’s so promiscuous that she’s available to anyone!”
Seeing through Nathan’s hypocrisy, I felt nothing but indifference when hearing his cruel
words.
He thought I was impure, but in my eyes, he was filthy!
I would rather consider my three–year relationship with him a miserable episode and just let it go.
Jane pushed me to the floor in a fit of exasperation. Caught off guard, Nathan instinctively reached out to help me.
But Quinton, who heard the commotion and dashed over, was quicker. He picked me up directly.
“This is a hospital, not a stage for your drama. Please stay together forever and stop bothering others!”
Although Quinton usually seemed gentle and modest, only I knew how sharp–tongued he could be.
Noticing that he was about to walk away, Nathan was furious.
“Aurora, if you dare to leave with him, I’ll halt your grandmother’s treatment right away. Are you prepared to watch her die?!”
I finally panicked and struggled to get out of Quinton’s arms.
He murmured, “Don’t move.”
His aura was so domineering that I didn’t dare to move again.
He paused, turned around, and glanced at Jane and Nathan.
“This hospital now belongs to my family. I’ll treat Aurora’s grandmother. Please get out of here immediately. I don’t want to dirty the hands of my security guards.”
With that, Quinton left directly.
In the distance, Nathan’s mocking voice reached my ears. “Quinton, you’re only fit to pick up the woman I’ve abandoned!”
I sobbed in Quinton’s embrace for a short while. It was only then that I fully realized what he had said earlier.
It turned out that he was that medical genius.
Nathan hadn’t actually helped to invite anyone to save my grandmother. All those times I had put up with him were for nothinal

After releasing all my pent–up emotions, I felt a lot more at ease. However, I soon sensed that
something was wrong.
If Nathan’s resentment towards Quinton stemmed from Jane, where did Quinton’s hostility towards Nathan originate?
Quinton replied nonchalantly, “Nathan and I are half–brothers. His mother was my father’s
mistress, and later, they got married.”
His explanation was simple and straightforward.
What an awkward situation!
While I was racking my brain, trying to figure out how to console Quinton, he seemed to read my mind.
“Don’t bother trying to comfort me. You’d be better off sorting out your relationship with Nathan first.”
Quinton paused, as if making a major decision. “If you still have feelings for him, then I’ll make a sacrifice and win Jane over.”
I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe such an immoral statement had come from his lips. Quinton shrugged. “Since his mother could be a mistress and seduce my father, why can’t I be his fiancée’s lover?”
At the sight of his earnest expression, I shook my head in shock.
“No, no, no. I’m certain. I don’t love him anymore! Don’t do anything hasty!”
I was genuinely worried that he might actually go through with this crazy idea of seducing
Jane.
I wasn’t deceiving him. Even though the heartbreak stung, I wasn’t a love–struck fool.
Quinton, who had just had an expression of heroic sacrifice, immediately relaxed and broke into a smile, patting my head with relief.
“You scared me. I truly feared that you’d be heartless enough to shove me into a difficult situation.”
I rolled my eyes at him and muttered softly, “How could it be!.”
Quinton was the one I had secretly adored. Regardless of the circumstances, I always wished for his happiness.
“Aurora, actually I…”
Quinton’s tone suddenly became solemn, and his eyes fixed on me were sincere and bright.
Just then, a nurse burst through the door. “Oh, no! Dr. Thompson, one of your patients is in a critical condition!”
“Grandma, don’t scare me! Grandma!”
I grasped my grandmother’s hand in a state of panic, finding it impossible to accept what
was unfolding. Moments ago, she had been perfectly well, yet now a critical condition notice had
been issued for her.
“Aurora, my Aurora.”
“Grandma, I’m here. I’m here! Please don’t leave me.”
“Aurora, y–you aren’t unwanted…”
My grandmother managed to utter a few words with great difficulty before finally leaving me
alone. She passed away with regret and resentment.
The nurse informed me that after Quinton carried me away, my grandmother opened the ward door and caught sight of Nathan and Jane.
She must have overheard his cruel words.
At that moment, I hated Nathan to the core.
He desired to flaunt his affection, but why on earth did he have to do it right in front of my
grandmother?! He was well aware of how much I cared about her!
I wept quietly, and the overwhelming grief sapped every ounce of my strength.
At night, I received a call from Nathan.
“Aurora, I can find the best medical team to treat your grandmother, provided that you’re willing to return to me.”
He still maintained that haughty tone.
My voice was hoarse. “No need. Nathan, meeting you was the biggest mistake of my life.” Two individuals who secretly loved others shouldn’t have been in a relationship.
Nathan shouted, “Is it because of Quinton? I know it. From beginning to end, you only have affection for him! Aurora, what did you take me for? A second choice? Did you ever love me?!”
I had never seen him so out of control.
