Mark saw me dial 911, so he grabbed it and
hung it up.
“Sarah, why are you calling the police?”
He stared at me, guilty.
I found it funny.
“Am I slandering Brenda? Let’s see who’s guilty.”
“Then the cops can find the ring, it’s all on
camera, so it won’t be hard to find.”
Brenda’s face went white.
Mark said something, but Brenda stopped him and said, “Let it go, it’s not worth it. Don’t
shame the company.”
Happ
Mark looked at her like she was perfect.
He glared at me and started yelling.
“Sarah, you are getting worse!”
“You’re lucky that she’s so nice.”
Brenda alared at me and then turned to Mark.
“I should get back to work.”
She turned and left.
She was happy.
She knows Mark is going to yell at me.
Brenda was gone, and Mark started to yell at
- me.
He said that I was being childish.
When he was done yelling he brought out our wedding ring.
“I’m not biased, I want the best for you. I want
you to rest, and I want the company to have the best people.”
He tried to put the ring on me.
I dodged hi
“Brenda is not qualified.”
“Mark, should I rest, or should you rest?”
“You…”
I touched a nerve.
Mark’s face turned red.
“We’re done here.”
He threw the ring at me and left.
He was giving me the silent treatment.
He does this so I apologize.
But I wasn’t scared.
I looked at the ring and left.
Mark didn’t come home until midnight.
Brenda posted something on the company chat.
“Mark got me a car! If you work hard, you’ll
get one too.”
The picture was her standing in front of a car,
and Mark put his arm around her.
The co–workers left comments.
Mark left a comment.
“It’s a reward for your hard work. I hope
Sarah can learn something.”
Saran can learn sometning.
I knew he was talking about me.
I know that Mark wants to make me jealous. One of the co–workers private messaged me. “Sarah, what’s going on? You guys were so cute.”
I knew the co–worker.
She was there when Mark and I started.
She had kids and quit, but I hired her back.
I remembered the past.
Mark and I were in love back then.
He would stay by my side for days when I was
sick.
He would buy the mangos I like and drive a
week to get it.
He would buy me a car for my birthday.
The car is old, but it’s been ten years.
Our love is like that.
I didn’t respond, I packed my bags.
I didn’t respond, I packed my bags.
I had to get out of here.
I sold what I could and threw away what I
couldn’t.
I only kept the pictures.
I grabbed a fire pit and started burning them.
Mark walked in and was smiling while he texted someone.
Seeing me, he stopped smiling and looked at
- me.
“Why are you here in the middle of the night? Don’t you have anything better to do?”
I know he’s upset that he couldn’t manipulate
- me.
He likes going out with his friends at night, so I stay up and wait for him.
I turn on the lights and stay in the living room
until he gets home.
He likes telling me how nice that is.
You can tell if someone loves you.
I said nothing and burned the photos.
Mark doesn’t take pictures, but I made him take them.
I thought he didn’t care, but then he got interested.
He reached down and grabbed the pictures
and looked at them.
“When did we take these?”
He was confused.
“This picture is good, who took it?”
“Haha, this one’s funny, you look like a fox.”
“Sarah, you were so cute back then.”
He laughed.
I said nothing.
He realized that we were mad at each other.
“Why are you burning these?”
“I don’t need them.”
<
“I know what you’re trying to do.”
Mark smiled and stood up.
He handed the pictures back.
“You’re doing this so I can see. Don’t be mad.
We’re getting married tomorrow.”
He was acting like doing me a favor.
I laughed, then threw the pictures in the fire.
He said, “What are you doing?”
“Mark, we’re…”
His phone started ringing.
Mark’s face brightened and he went into the bedroom and answered the phone.
I could hear laughing from the bedroom.
I was waiting outside, looking at the ashes.
It’s like Mark and I.
After thirty minutes, he walked out smiling.
“The company needs me, and I have to go. I’ll
be home late.”
L
He tried to act like he wasn’t hiding anything,
but I know that Brenda called.
He has been using the company as an excuse
for her for a while now.
I said nothing and nodded.
He changed and put on cologne.
He forgot about me.
“Oh, what were you saying before?”
