Chapter 14 He’s Not Coming Home to Sleep (1)
Samuel said nothing, but his eyes looking at her told everything.
Eliana instantly felt the squeeze in her chest again.
But she didn’t make a fuss this time. After watching Samuel leave, she sat alone on the spacious living room sofa, her heart feeling as heavy as if a boulder were pressing on it.
At the hospital
When Samuel arrived, Chloe was already awake.
She was sitting on the hospital bed, raging at the nurse beside her and looking around the room.
“All of you, get out! Turn on the lights for me. Why can’t I see anything? Why?”
The nurses had no choice but to dodge and back away as Chloe threw dishes from a meal at them.
Seeing someone appeared at the door, the nurses hurriedly nodded and called out, “Mr. Nelson, you’re finally here. Ms. Howard is very agitated and won’t let us get close. We can’t change her dressings.”
Samuel strode into the hospital room.
Chloe, feeling someone approach the bed, screamed like a madwoman again, “Get out! All of you, get out! Why can’t I see? Why? Tell me!“.
She thought falling down the stairs would inevitably result in losing an arm or a leg.
And that way, she could depend on Samuel for life, making him stay by her side all the time.
She didn’t expect that falling down only resulted in a broken leg, nothing too serious.
Except for the blindness.

“How could she compete with Eliana if she couldn’t see? How could she go find Samuel and make him take responsibility for her if she couldn’t see him?
At this moment, Chloe felt regret–thick, dark regret rising in her. What have I done?‘
She regretted using such an extreme method to frame someone else. Now, the other person was fine, while she got her just deserts.
“Chloe-”
A man’s deep voice sounded.
Chloe snapped out of her daze and quickly raised her hand, groping in the air, excitedly calling out, “Is that Sam? Sam, are you there?”
“It’s me,” he said.
Samuel moved closer to her.
When Chloe felt Samuel, she panicked and suddenly threw herself at him, hugging him and crying, “Sam, what’s wrong with me? Why can’t I see anything?”
Samuel didn’t push her away. His voice remained low. “The doctor said you’ve gone blind, but it’s not permanent. You’ll get
better”
“What?”
Chloe suddenly became uncontrollable again, clinging to Samuel and crying pitifully.
“Sam, help me. I didn’t want to lose my chance to be a mother, and now I can’t even see your face, Sam, you must stand up for me. I just wanted to find Eliana and talk things out, to get along peacefully. I didn’t expect her to get angry and push me down the stairs. Sam, you hit me with your car ten years ago, I don’t blame you for that. But now I can’t see, and it’s Eliana who did this to me. You must stand up for mel

She clung tightly to his waist, crying her heart out.
Samuel stood straight by the bed, looking down at her.
He prized Chloe’s arms from around him, sat down, and comforted her. “I will stand up for you. But first, calm down and rest well. The doctor said the blindness isn’t permanent. Do you understand? You’ll get better.”
“But I can’t see anything now. I’m so scared. Sam, don’t leave me, don’t abandon me.”
He was already resigned to a long night. “Okay, I’ll stay with you,” he said.
Samuel knew he had a responsibility, so he sat down next to Chloe, willing to spend time with her. Chloe nestled into his arms, her cries gradually weakening, but she felt a little smug inside. Actually, being blind awhile wasn’t so bad. She could still keep this man by her side.
She didn’t believe that after Samuel spent enough time with her, he wouldn’t fall in love with her.
At Regal Garden Villa, Eliana couldn’t sleep all night. Finally, at 3 AM, she called a private car to take her to the hospital. Quietly approaching Chloe’s private hospital room, she saw the lights were on. Eliana gently pushed the door open and entered.
In the room, she saw her beloved husband sitting on the couch by the window, working on his laptop rested on his lap. On the hospital bed, Chloe seemed to be asleep.
Hearing the door open, Samuel looked up.
When he saw it was Eliana, he frowned slight de imple
ed towards her.
Before Eliana could speak, Samuel pushed her out of the hospital room.

Standing in the hallway, he asked her with some displeasure, “It’s nearly three–thirty in the morning. What are you doing here?”
Eliana’s lips turned down, and she said pitifully, “I couldn’t sleep because I missed you, so I came to check on you. Why are you staying with her the whole night? I mean, where’s her family?”
*Her family is all abroad. She can’t see right now and might need to stay in the hospital for a month or even two. As I see it, she’s my responsibility during this time.”
Samuel had already told Eliana not to cause any trouble. Yet she still came running over in the middle of the night.
Eliana immediately became upset again. “So for these two months, you’re not coming home to sleep at all?”
