Chapter 32 Chloe’s Fake Blindness Almost Exposed
She’d heard Samuel promise to take care of Chloe forever.
Eliana couldn’t move, her heart ached. She watched them sitting together, but remembering that Samuel was trying to make up for hurting Chloe didn’t dare make a scene. As she walked towards them, she could only keep her feelings bottled up inside. Even though Samuel saw Eliana approaching, he made no move to push away the woman in his arms.
Chloe, nestled in his embrace, caught sight of her unhappy face from the corner of her eye and feeling triumphant, she deliberately reached up her hand. “Sam,” she said, “since I lost my sight, I can’t remember what you look like anymore. Can I touch your face?”
“I guess that’s okay,” he said and sat still, letting Chloe’s hands wander over his face.
Now sitting nearby, Eliana watched and gritted her teeth, trying not to clench her fists. She shot her husband an accusatory look while silently begging him to push the bitch away. But Samuel only met her gaze and didn’t move. It looked as if he had no intention of removing himself from Chloe.
Eliana could no longer contain her anger and thought she might break something if she didn’t leave that very second. She jumped to her feet and stormed upstairs. And Samuel didn’t stop her.
Knowing Eliana had left and that Samuel hadn’t pushed her away, Chloe got bolder. She puckered her lips and leaned in to kiss his face. Just as she was about to make contact, Samuel watched her eyes, then turned away. He frowned, looking back at her said, “Can you see now?”
Chloe panicked, quickly stammering. “N–no, of course not.”
Samuel replied, “Then stay still. I’m going to change into something comfortable.”
With that, Samuel left Chloe on the couch and strode upstairs,
In the bedroom, Eliana angrily slammed a pillow against the floor repeatedly, then stomped on it in frustration. She knew the way
Samuel had acted earlier meant he clearly enjoyed Chloe touching him.
She found herself furiously thinking, all that talk about making up for hurting her was bullshit – really, Samuel just couldn’t resist a beautiful woman’s advances. Men were all the same, they could never resist a flirting women. Eliana stomped the pillow again.
From the doorway came Samuel’s smooth voice, “Throwing another tantrum?”
Eliana sat down on the floor against the foot of the bed, hugging a cushion and too angry to look at him.
Samuel felt he’d already explained things clearly enough before, so he ignored her and went to the closet. Coming out changed, he found his wife still sitting on the floor fuming. He stood over her, looking down.
“Eliana, my patience has limits.”
‘Jeez,‘ she thought, he’s implying she shouldn’t act unreasonably with him.‘ This made Eliana even angrier. But not daring to explode, she looked up at him with hurt eyes and shared her suspicion: “I think Chloe’s faking being blind,” she said.
Samuel looked at her but his face remained expressionless.
She got up from the floor and put the pillow back on the bed. “If you don’t believe me, we can prove it.”
Samuel watched her and asked, “How do you plan to do that?”
Eliana replied, her voice revealing a new conviction. “After dinner, send Nora away and leave the rest to me. Don’t worry, Samuel, I won’t hurt her.”
“And if she’s not faking, Eliana?” Before Eliana could answer, he said sternly: “Eliana, why are you so hostile toward Chloe? She’s the victim here. I just cleared things up with you at the hotel this morning – what are you making a fuss about now?” Eliana protested. She quickly explained, “I’m not making a fuss, Sam.”
“If you’re not making a fuss, why were you sitting on the floor beating up pillows?”
So she wasn’t even allowed to vent her frustrations on a pillow? Or did he expect her to stay cheerful and calm after seeing
