Chapter 33 His Promise to Care for Chloe Forever
“Even if she is faking, I have an obligation to take care of her. That’s my promise,” Samuel said coldly, adding, “Don’t accuse people without proof.” He turned and walked away, his demeanor distant. Eliana stood by the bed, fighting back tears again. Why did Samuel think she was slandering Chloe? The bitch was lying. And anyway if it wasn’t Chloe,‘ she thought, ‘who else would try to harm her? Plus, Eliana suddenly remembered, when she came home earlier, she clearly saw Chloe looking at her phone.
Why would a blind person be looking at a phone?
Feeling depressed and fed up, Eliana lay on the bed and crawled under the covers, trying hard not
ot to cry
She chastised herself all the same for being weepy thinking, “I shouldn’t cry every time Samuel gets stern with me. I’m about to be a mother – I need to be strong.”
At dinner time, Nora came up to call Eliana. She tapped on the bedroom door. “Mrs. Nelson, dinner’s ready,” she said.
However Eliana didn’t want to go downstairs, and remained in bed. She called through door, “Please bring it up here. I don’t want to see that woman.”
Nora kindly replied, “Alright.”
Downstairs in the dining room, Chloe and Samuel were eating. Seeing Nora alone, Samuel asked, “She’s not eating?”
Nora smiled briefly and said, “Mrs. Nelson said she isn’t feeling well, Mr. Nelson, so I’ll take her dinner up.
However, Samuel said firmly, “Tell her to come down,”
Nora hesitated, “It’s fine, sir. I can take her dinner up.”
Samuel wasn’t having it and insisted. “I said, Tell her to come down, Nora.”
His housekeeper had no choice but to go back upstairs. Eliana reluctantly came down and sat next to Samuel. Seeing her look so wronged, Samuel cut her steak and placed it on her plate. Eliana thén ate in silence without looking up.
Noticing the tension between them, and Samuel cutting up her food as if for five–year–old, Chloe thought Eliana must have thrown another tantrum. She also thought that if she could provoke Eliana into losing it again, that would be even better. “Sam, what other delicious dishes are there? Chloe called out sweetly.
Samuel looked over to Nora, who walked over to the sideboard and returned with some potato salad, which she put on Chloe’s plate, then she took a spoonful and brought it to Chloe’s mouth, “Ms. Howard,” she said, “Let me help you.” Chloe’s expression changed when she realized it was something she didn’t like, but since she was pretending to be blind, she had
to eat it anyway.
Samuel stopped paying attention to Chloe. Eliana didn’t say anything to either of them. She just wanted to finish and leave. But when she tried to leave, Samuel immediately grabbed her hand and directed her to sit on the couch. Nora retreated to the kitchen, leaving just the three of them. Since Eliana remained silent on the couch, Chloe with a smile, spoke up, “Sam, is Eliana not here? I haven’t heard her voice.”
Samuel looked at her and at his wife disconsolate on the sofa, and deliberately said, “No, Chloe, she went upstairs to read. It’s just us two here.” He removed some plates in front of her and then moved his chair closer. “Make yourself comfortable,” he said, “I’ll work beside you.”
Chloe forced a laugh, “Oh, okay.”
Samuel put his finger to his lips and signaled to Eliana, who was observing this little performance. She got up silently and tip–toed over the marble floor in her bare feet to the dining table and sat down on his lap.
Eliana looked at Samuel with a confused frown, staying quiet. Samuel seemed to be doing this on purpose. Then as he held her on his lap, he deliberately started passionately kissing her in front of Chloe. Eliana began to understand. The bastard was testing her to see if she was really still blind!
As Samuel kissed her lips and neck, Eliana felt tingles throughout her body. She could hardly control her breathing. When Samuel slipped his hand under her blouse and under her bra, she opened her eyes to check Chloe’s reaction.
