Chapter 36 Every Night He Wants To… (1)
The heartache began to surge again. No woman could stay indifferent seeing her husband carrying another woman. If Samuel would eventually divorce her to marry Chloe, what was the point of persisting now? In the end, she’d still be abandoned by Samuel ‘So,‘ she thought, you need to learn how to be strong and independent, Eliana, and financially capable without him.” Since she was on break with nothing to do, she decided that tomorrow she’d look for a part–time work. Resolved to do this, she felt her mood lighten. She’d be out all day and wouldn’t have to see Chloe.
Just then, the door to the bedroom opened. It was Samuel. He stood tall and proud in his suit, exuding his usual charm, and causing Eliana’s heart to flutter. She smiled and walked over to him from the window and called, “Samuel,”
While changing his clothes, Samuel asked, “No unpleasantness today?” Eliana stood watching him and wondering why men couldn’t help dropping their clothes on the floor. “No,” she said, “I’ve been reading in the garden.”
“Good,” he said, and slipped a hoodie over his head.
After changing into casual wear, Samuel faced her, “Something on your mind?” he asked, watching the expressions move
across her face. She was still too young to hide her emotions, he thought ruefully
Eliana shook her head, “No, nothing.”
He didn’t press further and walked past her and onto the landing. “Good then. Let’s go down for dinner,” he said.
Suddenly Eliana called out: “Samuel.”
Samuel turned back to look. His Eli had puffed up her cheeks childishly and was looking up at the ceiling, with her arms out wide. Understanding her meaning, Samuel came back and lifted her up in his arms. “Eliana, am I spoiling you too much?” he asked. She even wanted to be carried downstairs.
Samuel wondered when exactly the formerly well–behaved, grateful Eli started being so bold in demanding things from him. He mused that fortunately he was young – carrying a small woman of about 110 pounds was still easy. If he were old and she still liked being carried like this, it would surely break his back.
“You’ve always been so good to me, I wonder if you had ulterior motives from way back,” Eliana whispered in his ear, arms around his neck.
Samuel snorted, “You were so young then. I’m not some pervert who’s into kids.” “Then why were you such a beast after
it
we got married, wanting to do very night…”
Samuel patted her back, feeling guilty: “Stop talking about that.”
Eliana playfully bit his ear, sending shivers through his body. “I loved it,” she whispered.
He growled, “Eliana…”

She finally behaved herself. As Samuel carried her downstairs, she saw Chloe sitting in the dining room. Remembering how Samuel’s test had failed to prove Chloe was faking, she felt defiant. She whispered in Samuel’s ear again:
“Samuel, since Chloe can’t see anyway, I want to keep holding you like this.”
“Then stay still and behave,” he said.
“I’ll be like a statue, Eliana thought, and didn’t dare move. Samuel carried her to sit across from Chloe, settling her on his lap. Nora suppressed a smile while setting the table. Chloe felt the blood rising in her face. But she didn’t dare react. She sat at the table pretending not to see anything.
Nora fed Chloe herself, “Ms. Howard, open your mouth, let me feed you.” Chloe reluctantly opened her mouth.
While eating, she deliberately asked Nora, “Isn’t Sam coming to eat?”
“Why Mr. Nelson is sitting right across from you,” she said.
“But I haven’t heard Sam speak yet.” Chloe asked, trying to roughly face the man opposite, “Sam, where’s Eliana?” “Right here,” he said.
Samuel forked some meat to feed the person on his lap. Eliana ate happily, occasionally raising her eyebrows at Chloe to provoke her. Chloe was furious but had to pretend she couldn’t see anything of course. Eliana took a spoon to feed her man and he cooperated well. They continued to affectionately feed each other until their plates were clean.
Finally dinner ended, but Chloe then saw Samuel carry Eliana to the living room couch and had Nora bring his laptop. Though he was working, he still let Eliana stay in his arms, Chloe felt she would expose herself any second if she watching them being lovey–dovey. Unable to bear this humiliation anymore, she suddenly stood up and said, “Sam, I have a
kept headache. I want to go lie down in my room.”
Samuel made a sound of acknowledgment and looked at Nora, “Help her back to her room.”
wou there.
Before Nora could pick up Chloe’s walking stick, she called out, her voice insistent, “Sam, I can’t sleep without you I’m scared. Could you take me to my room first and leave after I fall asleep?”
Samuel had no choice but to close his laptop, move Eliana out of the way, and get up. Eliana was upset but folded her arms. and curled up on the couch, watching Chloe.
“All right, Chloe,” he said. “Then let’s go.”
They slowly walked to Chloe’s room. Thinking she couldn’t see, Samuel went to pull back her covers himself. But when he did, he was shocked to find several live frogs and dead fish in the middle of the bed.
