He slammed the door in anger. The noise of it seemed to break Eliana’s heart completely. But unlike before, she didn’t cry after Samuel’s anger. She held back her tears. If she could learn to be independent, strong, and control her longing for Samuel during the days without him, then she could leave Samuel and live a life without him.
Nora received Samuel’s orders – Eliana wasn’t allowed to leave the room or eat anything. So Nora didn’t dare help Eliana. Eliana stood her ground she stayed in her room all day without a drop of water, except from the bathroom.
When Samuel came home from work and saw Chloe sitting in the living room but no Eli, he casually asked Nora, “Is she still in her room?”
Nora nodded, “Yes, Mrs. Nelson hasn’t come out. She hasn’t eaten anything, not even had her mineral water.”
Samuel frowned, tossed his coat aside without acknowledging Chloe in the living room, and went straight upstairs. Opening the door, he found Eliana still sitting on the floor. Standing over her, he said, “Eliana, ready to admit you were wrong?” If she just apologized and said sorry to Chloe, he wouldn’t really keep her locked up without food. She was still his wife, after all.
But Eliana hugged her knees against the bed, not even glancing at Samuel. Seeing her stubbornness, Samuel said, “Looks
you need more time to think it over. Keep reflecting.” He slammed the door as he left.
Eliana slowly raised her head, her small face pale às paper. Besides the bitter ache in her heart, her stomach growled with hunger. But she’d rather starve than apologize for something she didn’t do.
Downstairs in the dining room, while Samuel was eating, he couldn’t help but tell Nora, “Take some food up to her.” “Yes, Mr. Nelson,” she said, and went to the kitchen to fix a tray.
After Nora had taken the food upstairs for Eliana, Chloe asked with fake concern, “Sam, what’s wrong with Eliana?” He said bluntly, “Nothing!”

Samuel suddenly looked up at Chloe across the table. Seeing Samuel’s gaze, Chloe quickly began randomly poking her fork around her plate and staring straight ahead. Seeing she was truly blind, Samuel helped put food on her fork. Chloe, eating with her head down, asked, “Sam, when we get married in the future, what are your plans for Eliana?” Samuel paused, Eli’s face suddenly flashing in his mind. After thinking for a moment, he said, “I’ll divorce her, but I won’t let her leave me.”
Chloe was startled, “Why?” she asked.
“I’m her only family. Without me, she has nowhere to go.”
“But we’ll be husband and wife. How can you keep your ex–wife around?”
“Chloe.”

Samuel’s face darkened as he cut her off coldly, “Eliana and I are husband and wife now, yet I’m keeping you here.”
Chloe had no answer for this. So even if she forced Samuel to marry her, he still wouldn’t abandon Eliana? Chloe gritted her teeth in jealousy, but kept smiling. “That’s true,” she said, “After all, Eliana is an orphan. Don’t worry Sam, if she stays, I’ll get along well with her.”
Chloe seemed to be so understanding, making Samuel feel even more guilty towards her. Thinking about his young wife who argued with him daily, the comparison made his heart heavy.
Nora brought food to Eliana and said softly, “Ms. Nelson, please eat something. You haven’t eaten all day.”
Feeling dizzy from hunger, Eliana looked at the food and asked, “Did you bring this secretly?”
“No,” Nora said, “Mr. Nelson asked me to bring it. He can’t bear to see you go hungry.”
Helping Eliana up from the floor to sit on a nearby sofa, Nora advised her earnestly: “Mrs. Nelson, though I don’t know why Mr. Nelson brought another woman home and cares for her so much, he still cares about you. You shouldn’t argue with him so much. Otherwise, she’ll steal him away – no man likes a wife who constantly fights with him.”
But she was tired of fighting over him. Samuel was a decisive man – he probably had already made up his mind. Thinking of the baby in her belly, Eliana ate bitterly while asking:
“Nora, if two people are destined for divorce, is there any point in staying together?” Nora sighed without answering. Elianal also fell silent. Marrying Samuel had been her dream. After that dream came true, her biggest wish was to give him children. Now she was pregnant, but he didn’t want her to have the baby. And because of Chloe, he kept wrongly accusing her. If she was destined to divorce Samuel, what was she holding on for?
She finished dinner with tears in her eyes, and took a shower, changed into her favorite jeans, chose a little Donna Karan top and after checking herself in the mirror, left the room: Standing on the stairs, she looked down and saw only Nora and Chloe in the living room, no Samuel. She turned toward the study.
Opening the door and finding Samuel inside, Eliana called out his full name, “Samuel Nelson.” Hearing this, Samuel looked up to meet his wife’s gaze at the door. The way she said “Samuel Nelson” inexplicably made his heart skip. Eliana walked into the study and stood before him, forcing calmness despite her pain: “I want to move out. That way, I won’t hurt Chloe anymore, and you two can have more time alone. Is that okay?”
