Samuel stared at her and listened. Eliana gathered her courage and continued. “Once I get used to life without you, fe for divorce myself. Eliana froze. Learn to be understanding like Chloe? She found it laughably absurd. As she was about to argue back through gritted teeth, Samuel’s icy voice continued: “I didn’t hold it against you when you pushed her down the stairs, causing her blindness. I could overlook you putting those things in her bed. But if you keep acting up like now, wel Eliana’s pent–up frustration exploded, and she turned to shout: “Right, I’m not as understanding as her. Everything is my fault. Isn’t this what you want to dump me and marry her? Then let’s get divorced now! I’m sick of watching my husband dote around another woman. It’s disgusting!”
Samuel never imagined this docile woman would become so unreasonable. His expression darkened with anger, “You’ve really gone too far,” he said. Suddenly pushing back his chair, Samuel stood up, unbuckled his belt and pulled it off his pants. Then he advanced toward Eliana.
Eliana’s eyes were already red, and she instinctively backed away seeing Samuel’s actions. But before she could react, he grabbed her and bent her over the desk, and whipped her butt with the belt, Actually, he didn’t use much force- he just wanted to scare her
Eliana cried out in pain and yelled, “You’re hitting me? What right do you have? This is domestic violence–l report you!”
“Because I’m your husband, and you won’t listen.” With that, Samuel struck her bottom again with the belt. The force was really light. But Eliana still felt the pain.

In despair, she struggled and shouted, “Samuel Nelson, I won’t love you anymore! Let me go!”
He struck her again. Barely using any force at all. “Seems like you haven’t learned your lesson if you still have energy to yell
at me.”
Eliana didn’t feel physical pain anymore, but it didn’t matter because her heart was already breaking. She lay on the desk, tears streaming down uncontrollably. “You’ve changed,” she cried, “You’re not the Samuel I love. I’ll let you be with another woman – isn’t it enough that I’m leaving?”
She felt bereft and lost. Why had the man who once doted on her changed like this not just scolding her, but hitting her too? If they were destined to separate eventually, why should she insist on staying? Eliana made up her mind – she would leave right this minute.
Samuel dropped the belt, his face like ice, “Are you sure about this?” “If she was really sure,‘ he thought, he would let her
have her way.”
Eliana straightened up, rubbing her butt while glaring at the tall man before her, tears filling her eyes. She said stubbornly. “You’re going to make me leave sooner or later anyway, aren’t you?”
“I never said I wanted you to leave,” he said, fitting the belt round his pants again.
“Then what do you call bringing another woman into our marital home?” she said, raising her hands up in frustration.
Her husband grew even more impatient, “Haven’t I explained this clearly enough before?” he asked.
Eliana didn’t want to listen. Wiping tears from her cheeks, she insisted: “I’ve made up my mind. I’m leaving tomorrow.”
He agreed without hesitation.
Eliana felt hopeless seeing how eager he seemed for her to leave, her heart pierced with pain again. Angrily pushing past him, she walked carefully out of the study. Samuel remained standing in the middle of his study, feeling frigid though also feeling sweat prickle his forehead. Actually, thinking about it, since he couldn’t change the fact that he had to marry Chloe. maybe letting Eli go out on her own wasn’t so bad. She was an adult now, she should have her own life.
Back in her room, Eliana immediately started packing. She didn’t want to wait until tomorrow – she would leave tonight!
