Chapter 42 Eliana Goes to the Family Home Alone (1)
When Samuel slammed the door as he left, the noise made Eliana jump. Her bleeding heart felt like it was dripping with pain. Fighting back tears, she crawled under the covers and finally cried herself to sleep.
The next morning, at breakfast, only Samuel and Chloe were at the table. Thinking about Samuel and Eliana’s fight last night, Chloe couldn’t help feeling smug. “Sam, –”
Samuel cut her off: “You need to go for your hospital check–up today. Nora will go with you. Stay there for two days – I’m busy, but I’ll pick you up when I’m done.”
Chloe’s face fell. “What’s so important? Can’t you come with me?” she asked.
“No. Don’t worry yourself, Chloe, my staff is very thorough – just tell them what you need.”
Chloe went quiet. Was Samuel trying to get rid of her again by sending her to the hospital? No way now that she was back, she wouldn’t let him push her away. If needed, she’d just camp out at the Nelson family home. Though reluctant. Chloe was eventually escorted out by Nora.
After they left, Samuel went upstairs. He knocked on the master bedroom door repeatedly with no answer before pushing it open. Finding the bed empty with no sign of Eli, Samuel started to panic. He pulled out his phone to call her.
By then, Eliana had already taken a taxi to the Nelson family home. She answered his call after getting out of the cab. His icy voice came through as he said, “Eliana, didn’t I tell you yesterday we’re going to the family home today? Where are you?”
Eliana shot back defiantly. She said, “None of your business.”
Samuel went from panicking to being livid. “Oh, so I can’t control you now? You need me to tan your butt again?” he said. “Be back here in 30 minutes.”
Eliana wasn’t having it. “I’m not coming back, Samuel,” she said, and added for good measure, “Come hit me if you dare.”
Samuel once again found himself gritting his teeth and forcing out each syllable, he said, “E–li–an–a Nel–son!!”
Eliana hung up, looked at her phone briefly, and headed toward the estate’s gates.
Staring at the ended call on his phone and recalling her smug attitude, Samuel felt both angry and exasperated by her childishness. But since it was grandfather’s birthday, he had to bring Eli back no matter what. He reluctantly called his
assistant:
“Ethan, find out where Eli is,” he said. “I want her back within 30 minutes.”

Chapter 42 Eliana Goes to the Family Home Alone (2)
“Yes, sir.” Ethan walked briskly away to his car.
This was Eliana’s second visit to the Nelson Family Estate. Her first visit was the day after getting her marriage license, when Samuel brought her to meet his family. She hadn’t been back since. Six months had flown by, and if it weren’t for grandfather’s birthday, she probably wouldn’t be here now.
Thinking the security guards wouldn’t remember her, Eliana was about to approach them with her gift box when they immediately stepped out of their booth and bowed.
One of the guards said, “Welcome home, Mrs. Nelson,” and pressed a remote in his hand. The huge wrought iron gates slid open from both sides.
Eliana was filled with a mixture of delight and surprise as she passed by them. “Well,‘ she thought, “apparently the guards do still remember me.” She smiled and thanked them and hurried into the estate. Before resuming his post, the second guard went over to a phone handset at the side of the gate and made an internal call.
Eliana knew the Nelsons were the country’s wealthiest family. On her first visit, she’d been amazed by how the estate looked just like a fairy tale castle. And today, it still took her breath away. There was quite a distance from the entrance to the castle’s main door.

Before she’d walked far, four servants emerged from the castle and rushed out to meet her. One cried out, “The Nelson is back!” They crowded around her, eagerly taking her things and greeting her with smiles. “Welcome home,
ma’am,” the eldest said.
Smiling warmly, one said, “We’re so glad you finally came back, ma’am.”
Another, now holding Eliana’s luggage in two hands said, “Ma’am, why don’t you live here instead of staying outside?”
The youngest was looking past Eliana’s shoulder, and saying. “Are you alone? Where is Mr, Nelson, ma’am?”
She didn’t know any of these people – why did they all know her? All calling her ‘ma’am.” Eliana felt overwhelmed by their enthusiasm, this wasn’t what she’d expected. It felt strange. She’d thought that as a Cinderella figure walking into the prince’s castle alone, people would look down on her and mock her. But these servants seemed genuinely welcoming – it
didn’t feel fake.
Before Eliana could respond, another voice called out, “Why did you come alone?”
