“Mr. Ford, this is the latest document from Mr. Hardin.”
Liesel pushed open the door and entered. Her expression was calm and composed as her gaze swept past Natalie. She placed a printed document on Jacob’s desk.
It was a new contract.
It was the new contract that Elijah had proposed.
Elijah was someone who thought long and hard about things. Yet, he was now casually proposing a subsequent collaboration, as if he had set his sights on something and was certain that he would get it.
Jacob frowned slightly, and his gaze slowly landed on Liesel.
At work, she was always dressed in a pencil skirt. Her waist was slim and dainty, yet it gave off a feeling of tenacity.
Her delicate and stunning features carried a hint of unapproachability, reminiscent of an edelweiss at the peak of a snowy mountain.
She was cold and beautiful.
The reason why Elijah had suggested they collaborate was most likely because he had his eyes on her.
“Elijah is trying to court you,” Jacob said in a neutral tone. He sounded completely professional, like how a superior would speak to their subordinate.
Court her?
Could Elijah’s actions even be considered courting?
Liesel didn’t care too much about this.
“Mr. Ford, this is a personal matter.”
Indeed, it was a personal matter.
Now that they were legally divorced, they were no longer husband and wife anymore.
He was now her ex–husband. What right did he have to ask whether his former wife had a new admirer?
Natalie smiled sweetly. “Jake, Liesel is such a catch. Isn’t it normal for her to have admirers? Liesel needs someone to take care of her too.”
Take care of her?

Liesel’s cool gaze shifted to Natalie’s beaming face. “If I can’t even take care of myself, do you think I would put my hopes in a man to take care of me? What do you think I am, a parasite?” she said coolly.
Natalie blinked. She tugged on Jacob’s sleeve. She pulled it back and forth gently like at petulant child.
Jacob’s eyes remained aloof. He stoically removed Natalie’s hand. “I know you’re not.”
He knew that Liesel wasn’t a parasite, and he said those words for her to hear.
Liesel’s gaze was chilly. Without responding, she turned around to leave. However, at that moment, Jacob’s phone rang.
It was a video call from Vincent.
Jacob paused momentarily. Then, he stepped forward and yanked Liesel’s arm back.
In the next second, he accepted the call.
“Jacob, I haven’t seen you and Lili in a while. Melinda made yours and Lili’s favorite dishes tonight, so come by the Ford Manor for dinner tonight.”
His gaze was kind, but his eyebrows betrayed a hint of hostility.
Liesel hesitated. Just as she was about to refuse Jacob pointed the camera at her.
Her body froze.
Among the Fords, Vincent treated her extremely well. She couldn’t bring herself to reject the offer, so she nodded.
Vincent chuckled. “How come you two look so tense? Have you guys been fighting? If you guys keep this how will I ever get grandchildren?”
up,
A nearly indiscernible flash of panic flickered in Liesel’s eyes.
Suddenly, she felt a hand on her belly and heard Jacob’s voice ring out above her head. ” Liesel,” he said in a tone that was far from gentle.
Liesel looked up. Her cold gaze met Jacob’s dark one.
At this time, he wanted her to put on an act again.
There was no love between them, and they didn’t care for each other at all. They only pretended to be a lovey–dovey couple in front of Vincent.
Frowning slightly, Liesel pressed closer to Jacob’s side. Then, he pulled her into his arms.
Their skin touched. She found herself completely enveloped in the cold air that Jacob carried himself with.

That familiar feeling made her heart clench bitterly.
Vincent brought up grandchildren again, and Jacob gave a perfunctory answer about leaving it up to fate.
Liesel felt herself tear up slightly.
Fate…
Well, fate had given them one, but it was now
gone.
“What are you thinking about?” Jacob’s voice interrupted her thoughts. The call with Vincent had already ended.
Liesel was a little dazed. After a brief bout of panic, she calmed herself down.
She pushed Jacob aside and calmly stood tall.
“I was thinking about work,” she replied noncommittally. Then, she turned around to walk
out.
However, Jacob grabbed her hand. “Grandpa wants to see you. Come with me to the Ford Manor tonight.”
Liesel stopped in her tracks and merely nodded silently.
Just as she
