Chapter 8
In his other hand, the delivery man held an openwork jewelry box made of rosewood. There were carvings of doves on the outer surface. It looked very delicate and luxurious.
Inside the wooden box was a red agate necklace. Its crimson color was bright and eye- catching. The moment one laid eyes on it, they could not look away.
There was a sticky note inside the box. On it, there was a line of elegant writing. “May you be like the rising sun on a winter morning, shining radiantly with immense brilliance.”
It was signed “Elijah Hardin.”
Liesel was taken aback.
Neither the jewelry nor the flowers captured her attention. Her gaze was fixed only on the accompanying sticky note, like this piece of paper was the actual surprise.
Elijah hadn’t made a mistake. Liesel wasn’t a cold and icy person.
She harbored a burning and sincere affection inside of her. She wasn’t the snow that gathered on the peak of the towering snowy mountains, nor was she a precious and
untouchable flower.
She was prideful and brilliant like the blazing sun. She was the kind of person whose vibrance could ignite a deep passion within others.
Unfortunately, after she married Jacob, she had become a caged bird with broken wings. She had been shackled with thick chains that confined her to a corner of the world, causing her to lose her brilliance.
No matter how prideful she tried to be, she was unable to find the same passion from before.
Liesel’s heart clenched slightly.
She held that sticky note in her hand and scrutinized it closely. A faint smile appeared on her lips.
Her colleagues in the project department surrounded her. They were blabbering with excitement.
“Ms. Sharp, who gave you these gifts? Is someone trying to court you?”
“Wow, was it Mr. Hardin? I heard Mr. Hardin is interested in continuing to collaborate with you these days!”
“I heard that this red agate necklace had been sold for over a million dollars at an auction two weeks ago, Mr. Hardin is so generous!”

Liesel furrowed her brows lightly. She wanted to refuse the gifts and ask the delivery man to take it back.
However, in the next second, her eyes met Jacob’s deep gaze.
Jacob had just left the meeting room with Natalle on his heels.
From afar, he could see a group of people crowding together. The gift box in the delivery man’s hand was far too striking. The moment he saw it, he couldn’t look away.
“Liesel, the office isn’t a place for fun and games.” Jacob walked over. He regarded everyone with a cool gaze.
The crowd dispersed as no one dared to stay any longer.
The delivery man stood there awkwardly while still holding the gifts.
Liesel thumbed the sticky note. She was still smiling. She simply raised her gaze slightly so that she was looking at Jacob once more. Giving the silent Natalie a cursory glance, she finally spoke. “Do you mean that I’m not allowed to receive gifts in the office, Mr. Ford? In that case, I’ll just walk out of the office.”
Initially, she didn’t even want to accept Elijah’s gifts.
She just wanted to keep the sticky note but return the others. With that, Elijah would also know her stance.
However, Jacob’s sudden appearance ignited the rebellious part of her.
Now, she wanted to keep the presents.
Liesel accepted the gifts. Before she could return to the office, she received a call from Elijah.
“Do you like the presents?” Elijah drawled.
“Give me your bank account number. I’ll transfer you the money,” Liesel said indifferently. She interrupted him before he could overthink things.
Was she trying to pay him back for the jewelry and the flowers?
How interesting. He had never met such an intriguing woman before.
Elijah was clearly caught off–guard. After a brief moment, he barked out a laugh. “Liesel, based on your reaction, can I assume that the gifts I picked out for you are to your liking? In that case, it seems like we’re in eine. You don’t need to transfer the money to me,” he
said in a carefree manner.
He continued, “Since you won’t accept them as presents from an admirer, just take it as a token of gratitude for helping me take down Uriah. You shouldn’t refuse anymore, right?

“It’s humiliating to have the gifts I gave away get returned to me, Ms. Sharp.”
His demeanor was very cheerful. Amusement was evident in his voice.
Without saying another word, Liesel hung up on him.
Her eyes fell on that red agate necklace one more, and she clenched her fists slightly.
The bouquet was seriously huge. As she held it in her arms, its fragrance filled her nose.
