Natalie appeared with a sweet smile. She was standing next to Jacob.
Jacob looked aloof and apathetic. He gave her a cursory glance before finally directing his gaze to Elijah.
“Mr. Hardin, I’m afraid that trying to undermine the Ford Corporation isn’t a good idea,” he said coolly.
Elijah became even more amused. He drawled languidly, “What kind of malicious internet. could I have? I just cannot bear to see a talent like Ms. Sharp get overlooked, that’s all. If a talent like her was willing to join my company, I would definitely treat her with respect.
“Of course, I won’t exclude the possibility that I have a different type of interest in Ms. Sharp and want to court her. After all, keeping her close would give me an advantage in that regard.” The last sentence was said meaningfully.
Not only was he not ashamed to be caught trying to undermine the Ford Corporation in front of Jacob, but he was even proud of it.

Blinking, Natalie said quietly, “Actually, it might be a good decision for Liesel to join Mr. Hardin. That way, she can also start a brand new life.”
Before she spoke, Elijah hadn’t paid her any attention. Upon hearing those words, he was momentarily stunned before he turned his laid back gaze toward her face.
With her sweet looks and a constant twinkle in her eye, she looked like a delicate little
flower.
In the past, whenever he met women like this, he might have had the urge to tease her.
But now, having met a beautiful and clever woman like Liesel, he couldn’t help but feel that innocent girls like Natalie were truly uninteresting and idiotic.
“Someone like Ms. Sharp could definitely get a brand new start anywhere. On the other hand, I can’t say the same for the newly appointed executive secretary…” Elijah let out a light chuckle that was dripping with mockery. “For a young man, you don’t have a good eye, Mr. Ford.”
He was clearly mocking Jacob for making the wrong decision in giving up a woman like Liesel for someone like Natalie.
Elijah snickered. “If you have time, you should see an ophthalmologist. I know one who works at the Firstline Hospital in Ashthorne.”
Having said that, he didn’t stay much longer. He simply gave Liesel an amused look. “See you again, Ms. Sharp.”
Then, he left.
His assistant began to put away the table and chairs that he had left behind.
Perhaps he had also developed Elijah’s balls of steel, but the assistant even shoved a document into Liesel’s hands right in front of Jacob.
Once he was gone, Natalie said in an envious tone, “You’re so lucky, Liesel. Everyone. admires you.”
“Do you envy me?” Liesel said with a laugh.
Natalie was stunned, and her smile stiffened. “Indeed, it’s something worth envying.”
Liesel’s straightforward and direct manner of speech had ended up leaving Natalie looking. a little dazed.
Liesel didn’t care whether Natalie was really unable to garner a reaction or not. She opened the passenger side door on her own accord and took that seat out of habit.
“Liesel, that–that’s now my s
seat.”

Liesel’s movements stopped abruptly.
“Jake promised me that I would be the only one who gets to ride shotgun next to him,” Natalie explained innocently.
Did Jacob really agree to such a ridiculous thing?
This was favoritism.
This was blatant favoritism.
As she thought, there was a world of difference in how he treated someone he truly loved and the ex–wife that he never really cared about.
Liesel got out of the passenger seat and sat in the back instead.
Once everyone was in the car, Liesel said casually, “Well, are you planning to take Natalie back to the Ford Manor to see Grandpa?”
“We’ll drop her off at her place along the way then head to the Ford Manor.”
Along the way?
In what way was it along the way?
One place was in western region while the other was in the eastern region. It wasn’t even in the same direction.
Liesel hummed indifferently. She suppressed the bitterness that flooded her heart and turned her head to look out the window.
In a daze, she watched the passersby brush past each other in a hurry. She felt as if she could already see her life drifting further away from Jacob’s.
