“Girls shouldn’t wear formal attire every day.” Vincent stated firmly. His words were quick and decisive. “No more delays. Tomorrow, take Lill to the store and let her pick out a few outfits.”
Jacob paused and was just about to politely decline, but Liesel smiled and shook her head gently.
“Grandpa, I have work to deal with tomorrow,” she said.
Jacob was surprised that Liesel had turned down the offer first. His gaze darkened slightly, and he said, “Work can wait. Tomorrow, I’m taking you to Heffings to buy clothes.”
Heffings was a high–end luxury brand owned by Ford Corporation, with stores among the top–ranked globally. Many celebrities frequented there for custom–made clothes.
Truly wealthy individuals, however, never went to such stores; they would receive photos of the latest collections and either reserve items or have them delivered directly to their homes.
Since Vincent had spoken, Jacob didn’t mind accompanying Liesel this time.
Meanwhile, Liesel was momentarily dumbfounded, feeling unsure of what Vincent was up to. Nevertheless, she had no choice but to agree.
“Alright, that’s how it should be,” Vincent said happily. He beamed. He loved seeing Liesel and Jacob appear so close.
As the meal drew to a close, Vincent raised the topic of children. “Lili, you and Jake should start thinking about having a baby.”
This had been his constant request since they married.
Liesel didn’t know how to react. Her hand reflexively fell to her lower abdomen as though by touching it she could feel the child that had yet to be born.
She replied, “Grandpa, these things happen naturally.”
Although Jacob wanted to object, Liesel suddenly squeezed his hand and promised
Vincent, “Grandpa, Jake and I will do our best.
Vincent smiled once more, not forgetting to lecture Jacob briefly.
Jacob remained impassive, but once they returned to their room, he removed his jacket and placed it on the rack. “Why did you say that to Grandpa?”
He adjusted his sleeves with a cold edge to his voice. “We will never have children.”
His words made Liesel freeze, though only for a moment.

She lightly touched her abdomen and spoke softly, “Grandpa wouldn’t have listened to whatever you said. He’s getting old, and it’s good to humor him sometimes.”
“Humoring him with something that will never happen?” Jacob said. He clearly disapproved of her approach.
Liesel’s gaze dimmed. “I just don’t want you two to argue
“Next time, don’t agree to something that can’t happen. That’s for Natalie and me to decide. It has nothing to do with you,” Jacob uttered unkindly.
It was as though he was reminding her to stay in her place. There would only ever be one woman by his side, and it was Natalie.
“Got it,” Liesel replied quietly as she picked up a bathrobe from beside the bed. She then asked casually, “Then I suppose we won’t be going to Heffings tomorrow either?”
“I’ve already promised Grandpa, so I’ll take you.”
But Liesel knew better. Jacob was determined to take her to Heffings, only to avoid raising suspicion with Vincent if they didn’t go.
“Alright, I understand,” Liesel said as she entered the bathroom. She turned on the shower and let the warm water pour over her body.
Though the bathroom wasn’t cold, she felt chilled to the bone. Unable to bear it any longer, she leaned against the wall. Her eyes misted over with unshed tears.
She knew she shouldn’t cry, but she couldn’t help feeling so profoundly sad.
Three years by Jacob’s side was already a long time, yet she still wasn’t satisfied. She wanted to stay longer, regretting that she wouldn’t be with him in the end and mourning the unborn child inside her.
When they first married, Jacob had made it clear there would be no children. It shattered her hopes for their future together. Yet fate had played a cruel trick, and now she was pregnant. She was uncertain whether this was destiny or coincidence.
It had happened after they divorced, of all times.
Jacob had said it so casually. If she were to get pregnant, he would make sure the baby was never born. He would never allow her to carry his child.
Liesel didn’t want to cause him any trouble, but the fact remained that she was pregnant.
For three years, they had always been careful. It was only after Jacob returned from a business trip, and in a moment of raw passion, they had been careless. That was when the baby came into being.
This child was so innocent, and no one was expecting it.
Chapter 13
Liesel stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. Her pale face was etched with sorrow. She looked pitiful.
Pressing her hand lightly against her abdomen, he thought about the child that had only been growing for a little over a month. Her waist was still slim, and no one would suspect she was pregnant.
As Liesel gently caressed her stomach, she made up her mind. No matter what happened, she would keep this baby.

In the haze of her thoughts, the bathroom door suddenly swung open. She was Her face paled further as her heartbeat quickened when she saw Jacob.
“What are you doing? I’m not finished…”
Jacob closed the distance between them. His eyes were narrowed as he stared at her sorrowful expression.
Without warning, he lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers.
Her head slammed against the wall as his lips crushed hers. His hot tongue forced her mouth open with a possessive kiss.
Liesel was shocked and tried to push him away, but Jacob held her tightly. His arms were wrapped firmly around her slim waist.
His hands slid upward over her clothes and grasped her chest. When his hand rested near her heart, she felt as if it was on fire.
Jacob’s scent overwhelmed her, and the fierce, passionate kiss left her with no resist. Her struggles turned into submission.

Before she realized it, she was lost in the intensity of his attack. Her entire body flushed from head to toe. He trailed kisses from her lips to her ear, then down to her collarbone. His hot breath burned her skin.
Liesel could hardly breathe.
When she regained some composure, she realized how completely he had overpowered her. She tried to push Jacob away again. “Jacob, are you crazy? Don’t you realize we’re divorced?”
Jacob’s eyes were red, and his body was burning with heat. He held her tightly, and his chin rested on her shoulder as his scorching breath brushed her ear. She trembled.
She understood then that Vincent had slipped something into his drink, and that was why he was acting so impulsively. Their bodies were so close she could feel Jacob’s feverish desire.
