Ophelia was the only one who could speak to Jacob so rudely. “Jacob, you’re married. Are you having an extramarital affair? Have you been corrupted by high society as well?”
She was shocked beyond coherence. “How can you be so immoral? The Ford family taught you better than that!” she continued babbling without giving Jacob, a chance to reply. She looked shocked.
The word “immoral” made Jacob laugh out of sheer anger. Lowly, he said, “Ophelia Ford, stop spouting nonsense.”
“I’m not spouting nonsense! You are having an affair. I’m just telling the truth!” Ophelia clenched her fists. “Don’t worry, Liesel. I’ll tell Grandpa when I get home. He’ll teach his jerk a lesson!”
“Ophelia, Jacob and I got a divorce,” Liesel said. She stopped Ophelia before she could do anything rash. Her voice was calm as if she was telling a story that she wasn’t involved in. Don’t tell Grandpa. He’s getting on in age and won’t be able to take the shock.”
Ophelia stopped. She turned to stare at Liesel in shock.
She was close with Liesel, so she knew how she felt about Jacob.
Liesel would never initiate a divorce. In that case, Jacob would be the one who did it.
“Why?” Ophelia was perplexed.
Their marriage was perfectly fine before this.
Her question was directed toward Jacob.
“This is between us. You shouldn’t interfere.” Jacob frowned. “Our marriage was a mistake in the first place. We were just rectifying it.”
His explanation was casual and nonchalant.
Ophelia felt weak in the knees.
Her gaze swept over Natalie, and her eyes sharpened. “She called you Jake. Did you divorce Liesel because of this woman, Jacob?
“What does she have that Liesel doesn’t? Is she prettier? Smarter? Kinder? Tell me!”
Jacob had no answer to that.
Natalie was pretty, but she wasn’t prettier than Liesel.
She was brought up outside the Sharp family, but even though she received etiquette training as well, she still wasn’t as well–mannered as Liesel.

Chapter 23
Academically, Liesel was still much smarter than her as well. Back then, Liesel had written. a paper on economics that got her into several prestigious schools abroad. However, she did not take any of those offers; instead, she chose to stay in the country and enroll in Alden University.
She had graduated with full honors. Even now, she was one of Alden’s most successful alumni.
Liesel was smart, but she also worked hard to get to where she was today. When she was in school, she would stay up late to study so she could skip grades. At work, she focused on doing her job well and rose through the ranks steadily.
At the time, everyone in the secretary department looked up to her, as she every partnership that crossed her desk.

Everyone who knew this called her Jacob’s right–hand man, the most important employee that Jacob couldn’t afford to lose.
Natalie couldn’t hold a candle to Liesel at all.
However, Jacob chose Natalie anyway and gave up Liesel, who was better in every possible
way.
Natalie, on the other hand, looked insulted. She bit her bottom lip. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at Ophelia.
“I know I’m not better than my sister, Ms. Ford but… But I love Jacob, and he loves me! You will never know the feeling of love at first sight,” she said tearfully.
This made Ophelia angrier. Her expression darkened even more.
