“Your sister? Who’s your sister? Did you just call Liesel your sister? You-”
Ophelia turned to Jacob and Liesel. She needed a proper explanation as to who Natalie was right now.
Natalie looked upset. “Liesel is my elder sister, Ms. Ford.”
Ophelia was so shocked that she stumbled unsteadily on her feet.
“I know you despise me because of the circumstances of my birth, but how is that my fault? My mother made a mistake in the past. I didn’t know anything about that when I was born. I’m innocent. I didn’t even know that Jacob was my brother–in–law when I fell in love with him,” Natalie sobbed.
Ophelia felt as if a bomb had exploded in her mind, set off by Natalie’s words.
The circumstances of Natalie’s birth, her mother’s mistake, she was innocent…
All this just to say that she was an illegitimate child born out of wedlock who became the mistress of her sister’s husband.
She looked at Natalie’s frail demeanor, and disgust welled up in her heart. Unable to restrain herself, she slapped her in the face..
With a loud crack, the slap landed on Natalie’s cheek. She was shocked.
She hadn’t expected Ophelia to hurt her while Jacob was there.
Her eyes reddened. Tears began to fall in earnest as her face swelled. “Why did you slap me, Ms. Ford? What did I do?”
Ophelia laughed coldly. “Stop acting. Is one slap not enough?” Her voice was cold as she looked down her nose at Natalie. “As an illegitimate child, you should be rotting in a ditch somewhere. You should be hiding somewhere and refusing to acknowledge your identity, instead of flaunting it in front of me!
“Do you really feel proud about stealing your sister’s husband from her when you’re just an illegitimate daughter?
“I hate people like you with a passion. You’re why the upper society is so corrupt. It’s all because of assholes like you!”
Natalie had no answer to that; in fact, she did not dare to speak at all.
She could feel Ophelia’s hatred. Tearfully, she looked toward Jacob and hoped that he would help her.
However, Jacob just looked up coldly. “Ophelia, don’t go too far.”

Ophelia laughed coldly. She had no intention of showing him any respect at the moment.
“Am I going too far? What about you? You could’ve had any woman you wanted, but you chose this despicable woman. Her mother slept with a married man. How is she any different?
“You had a perfectly good wife, Jacob, yet you’re willing to give her up for a random woman,” she scoffed. “Just you wait. When your relationship becomes public, the Fords will be the butt of the joke for the entire city!”
The heir of the Ford family was marrying the graceless and ugly illegitimate daughter of a common family. What a joke!
With that, Ophelia left without sparing Jacob another glance.
Natalie’s eyes were red with anguish.
Liesel glanced at her impassively before leaving the office as well.
Before closing the door behind her, she heard Jacob say gently, “Don’t mind her. Ophella’s just standing up for Liesel. Once she gets used to you, she’ll be protective of you too.”
