“Will Ms. Ford really ever be protective of me? Think she hates me,” Natalie said timidly. Her voice was choked up.
Liesel did not continue eavesdropping. She closed the door, ignoring the both of them.
As soon as the door closed, Natalle sat down on the armrest of Jacob’s chair.
Her fingers fiddled with the collar of his shirt as she asked timidly, “Jake, can I attend the Homecoming Day Ms. Ford mentioned as well? I’m an alumni of Alden University too, and I haven’t been back to visit the campus for quite some time.”
She pressed her face close to Jacob’s. “Plus, I don’t want you to go with Liesel. That makes it look like you two are a couple. I don’t like it.‘
Her voice was soft and coquettish. She sounded like she was fully dependent on Jacob.
Jacob ruffled her hair and changed the subject. “The Royale Restaurant’s new menu has some desserts that you like. I’ll take you there to try them.”
Natalie clung to Jacob’s arm while gently swaying. “Will you bring me to Alden’s Homecoming Day?”
Jacob hummed in agreement.
It was just a school celebration. It shouldn’t be a big deal.
The Royale Restaurant’s new menu contained some of Natalie’s favorite desserts. Jacob ordered everything.
Natalie’s mood lightened. Her heart softened.
Jacob did not say much. However, when he answered a call, his expression darkened.
Seeing this, Natalie asked, “What happened?”
“It’s from work,” Jacob answered lightly. “They need me to deal with something.”
It was noisy in the restaurant, so Jacob went outside to continue his phone conversation.
While he was out, the food was served.
Natalie waited for him. She did not start eating first. Instead, she looked out the window at Jacob’s back.
As if sensing her gaze, Jacob turned and met her eyes.
He nodded lightly, and his steely expression softened.

After a pause, he turned away again and spoke sternly into the phone.
It took him more than ten minutes to finish the call and con wack to the table.
Without sitting down, he said, “I’m going back to the company. Call me if you need anything.”
Natalie smiled understandingly. She reached out to take his hand, but he drew back instinctively. Without another word, he turned and left.
At the same time, Liesel was also in the restaurant.
She had also heard about the new menu and wanted to check it out.
She hadn’t expected to meet Natalie and Jacob here–that was really bad luck on her part. While she was enjoying the desserts, she saw Ophelia also entering the restaurant. She was in full makeup. Her heels clicked menacingly as she strode over to Natalie.
Natalie was eating alone despondently.
All she could think of was how she was going to marry Jacob one day. She had already forgotten about the humiliation she’d suffered under Ophelia’s hands.
Ophelia wasn’t Jacob’s sister, anyway. She was just a cousin, and she would marry someone else eventually. Natalie didn’t think she needed to worry about her.
Just as she was thinking that, a cold, female voice spoke over her head. “Natalie. We meet again.”
Natalie looked up, shocked. Before she could see who it was, the person had taken the seat opposite her. She was eyeing the spread on the table coldly.
