Jacob pinched the space between his brows, not intending to entertain Liesel further.
The nightgown she wore at that moment cascaded to her thighs while revealing most of her back. From his angle, he could perfectly see the contour of her breasts as she sat. They looked tempting and irresistible.
He had a fond memory of the time they shared a steamy encounter while she donned this exact nightgown in the study.
Jacob’s scrutinizing gaze went unnoticed by Liesel. Instead, she slowly said, “You know? You should have woken me up last night, Mr. Ford. That way, I could’ve returned to my own apartment and spared you the trouble.”
“Are you saying I was in the wrong?” He looked at her and said, “I’ll be sure to toss you out on the streets next time so you can’t get all sassy with me.”
Liesel stared at him for a few seconds, then asked, “Did I talk in my sleep last night?”
Jacob stiffened visibly, but Liesel did not notice. He grunted lightly and said, “Maybe you
did. I’m not sure.”
Lowering her gaze, she stopped the conversation at that. “Thank goodness. I was worried I’d spilled the secret about my pregnancy,” she thought.
She turned her focus to the dining table and started cutting up the sandwiches with a knife. Right then, an extremely faint fishy smell hit her nose.
Failing to withstand the smell, she instantly covered her mouth and gagged a few times. Following that was a subtle twitching in her stomach, which caused her eyes to turn slightly red.
Liesel quickly grabbed the glass of fresh orange juice before her and gulped it. It was warm, and as the juice glided over her stomach, its refreshing scent overshadowed the fishy smell.
The nauseous sensation passed.
Her face finally regained some color. By the time she examined her surroundings, she realized Jacob had been staring at her. She looked up and was met with his inquisitive gaze.
“You better explain what’s happening right now.”
Liesel smiled with her eyes and deliberately changed the topic. Her hand fluttered. nervously over her belly. “I’m just not feeling well. What’s the big deal about it? Also, didn’t Dr. Johanson send you my medical records?”
Jacob asserted, “Liesel, you look like you’re-”
Before he could say “pregnant,” Liesel interrupted him with a provoking tone. “You don’t

think I’m pregnant, do you, Mr. Ford? Although we were quite active in that sense, we did use protection on all occasions except for one time.
“Did you think you hit the jackpot in one try? Don’t get too full of yourself.”
He looked up at her with a gloomy gaze. Once he looked away, he changed the topic.
“The resort has been completed. The original ribbon–cutting ceremony was rescheduled because of the storm, so it was postponed to today.
“After breakfast, please accompany me to Dove District.”
The special resort established by Ford Corporation in collaboration with the authorities was located in Dove District, Ashthorne.
“Did you forget that I’m not your secretary anymore? You should let your newly appointed secretary go with you.” Liesel’s tone was full of rejection.
“She’s not accustomed to events like this vet. Besides, this was your project. Don’t you want to be there?”
Indeed, that was the biggest opportunity Liesel secured after joining Ford Corporation and a crucial reason for her rapid establishment within the company.
