Liesel grunted in response and felt a little warmth reach her eyes.
“I’ll take you for a wardrobe change.” Without waiting for her response, Jacob pulled her away from the dance floor.
Perhaps due to his quick reflexes, few noticed anything amiss. When someone inquired why they were leaving, he simply replied that Liesel was feeling unwell and needed to rest. Those who sensed something was off didn’t dare to ask further.
There were backup gowns sitting in the lounge on the second floor. Before Liesel could regain her composure, Jacob had already selected a red dress for her. At that, the terror in her heart quickly diminished.
“I like red, but that doesn’t mean I’ll only ever wear red.” She scanned the variety of hanging in the wardrobe. “I like them as long as they’re pretty.”

Jacob paused briefly and put the red dress back into the wardrobe before selecting an olive green gown. Its design was simple yet elegant. It highlighted the wearer’s femininity and accentuated the body’s contours.
His choice got a faint smile out of Liesel, and she didn’t refuse it this time.
“Need me to step out?” he asked.
Her instinctive response was, “It’s not like you haven’t seen me before,” but when she thought of his relationship with Natalie, she swallowed her words,
After a momentary daze, she affirmed, “Yeah, sure.”
Jacob grunted in response and exited the lounge.
Soon enough, Liesel settled her racing heart. When she removed her red dress, she noticed that the back zip had been deliberately cut off while the straps had been unfastened.
It was evident that the person behind this wanted her to embarrass herself at the party tonight. Without Jacob’s swift reflexes, she would’ve…
She shuddered, and her expression slowly turned grim as she gripped her red dress.

Even if she was reluctant to admit it, she knew that the only person capable of this was none other than Jeffrey, the only one she had privately interacted with and who harbored hostility toward her.
He was unconvinced by her promise, so he wanted to destroy her image once and for all.
Once she embarrassed herself by exposing her naked body in front of the crowd, she could never set foot in this
industry again. With that, he could finally pave the way for his beloved daughter, Natalie.

Chapter 41
What a devious but revolting plan.
Liesel gritted her teeth, and her brewing emotions caused her eyes to turn red. She couldn’t comprehend why she had to endure this. For once, would somebody finally stand up for her?
She truly had had enough of this.
Rising to her feet, she stood before the mirror and gazed at the face that countless women envied. Yet, behind her eyes was a pit of weariness.
The room to the lounge swung open again. Instead of entering, Jacob stood behind the door and glimpsed at her silhouette by the window. She looked lonely and desolate.
The soft glow of the room’s lighting cast a gentle light upon her. It enveloped her in a faint halo that brought out a melancholic air.
After a momentary halt, Jacob knocked on the door lightly, signaling he would enter.
The sound brought Liesel back to reality. By then, she had donned the olive green gown, which highlighted her youthful and elegant temperament.
The effect was in stark contrast to the red dress earlier, which was bold and eye–catching Instead, she seemed much more alluring now.
Jacob raised his brows slightly and walked forward. He asked, “Any idea who did it?”
Liesel gazed at him. Her words were clear and precise when she said, “Are you asking this so you can get back at them for me?”
He grunted lightly in response.
A laugh escaped her mouth. “It was Natalie’s father, Jeffrey. So, are you still going to get back at him?”
