Jacob’s gaze landed on Liesel’s face. He seemed extremely calm, and he pritled a stadighe face. Even in such proximity, she couldn’t locate any clue of emeninal the turns on
face.
The fleeting complexity in his eyes made him even more difficult to read. From dres spending three years with him, she hadn’t truly understood him.
“See? You chose Natalie; you chose to make me endure in silence.”
Jacob couldn’t help but furrow his brows upon seeing her current state. The ice bucket on the table was filled to the brim, so he randomly took one and pressed it against her
forehead.
The sudden cold sent shivers down her body.
While mumbling, Liesel released her grip on his collar but suddenly felt the invisible pressure intensifying. The ice cube melted into water streaks, gliding down her face and diminishing her tipsiness.
A single glass of wine was enough to make her tipsy, but its effects faded within minutes, allowing her rationality to slowly return.
Jacob’s towering figure looked upon her. He was expressionless. “Are you back?”
Liesel stiffened. She blinked as she rubbed her wrist and took a few steps back. Lowering her gaze,
she felt her breathing and heartbeat quicken. She was unable to calm the turmoil within her.
The atmosphere fell into a tense stalemate.
Meanwhile, he leaned against the chair. He tapped lightly against the table and gazed meaningfully at her. “Once you’re back, reconsider what you’ve just said and tell me what you truly think.”
As soon as he said that, the room descended into another silence again. In fact, he should know better than anyone that Liesel had been truthful while tipsy earlier.
However, that wasn’t something he wanted to hear.
Instead, he wanted her to regain her composure and answer his question logically. Under a sane mind, she would never reveal her true thoughts.
What he wanted was the smooth and clever Ms. Sharp who could provide him with an easy way out.
Liesel had regained her bearings at that point.
Faced with Jacob before her, she found it hard to continue denying his partiality and

fondness toward Natalie. The originally fair and just man was now blurring the lines for
her sake.
The painful realization left a scorching sensation in Liesel’s heart. Her hand, instinctively reaching to clutch at her chest but stopping just short, almost betrayed her feelings.
“What do you want me to say? Words in defense of Natalie?”
“Sure.”
A smile crept onto her lips, but her heart felt stabbed as she spoke. “Well, everything was orchestrated by Jeffrey while the pure and innocent Natalie knew nothing about this… How’s that?
Jacob looked at her and uttered the coldest words, “And you’d be right.”
How fond was he of Natalie to be so protective of her?
She had never felt any care or love from him, yet the fierce defense he showed for Natalie was overwhelming. So, he had been passionately loving someone else and preventing her from any hurt, huh?
Their marriage of three years now seemed like a joke to Liesel.
“Now that you got a satisfactory answer, how would you like to proceed with Jeffrey, Mr. Ford?” She deliberately mentioned Jeffrey again.
However, Jacob simply stared at her for a long time without a response. Silence was indeed an answer, wasn’t it?
“Right. He’s Natalie’s father. Why would he even deal with him? I’m such a fool,” Liesel lamented.
Her eyelashes fluttered with overwhelming emotions, and when she looked up again, her usual calm demeanor was back. “I understand now, Mr. Ford.”
With that, she stepped out and left Jacob alone in the lounge.
