The red wine in the glass was no longer chilled and instead turned to room temperature.
As Jacob downed the burgundy, images of Liesel’s resolute departure flashed through his mind, and his thin lips pursed ever–so–slightly
“Is Natalie really like that? In my memories, she’s harmless and innocent while Jeffrey is the douche,” he pondered.
He stood
and before he left the room, his gaze landed on the destroyed dress. Picking up the gown that Liesel had left behind, he brushed the smooth edge created by the scissors before his eyes turned gloomy.
As much as he knew that Jeffrey was the perpetrator, he couldn’t possibly do anything to him. He wanted to keep Natalie’s family safe.
Perhaps this time he would embrace the label of selfishness and offer Liesel compensation that would meet her approval.
When Liesel returned to the venue, the atmosphere grew tense. Small groups were huddled together and whispering to one another.
Meanwhile, in the center of the venue were a few men bound by sturdy ropes. Their limbs were completely restrained, and pieces of cloth had been stuffed into their mouths.
Beside them were lounge chairs, where Alex sunk into the soft cushion and idly chatted
with Denzel about work.
Instantly, Liesel noticed that something was awry. Once she stepped into the main hall, countless gazes were thrown in her way, and she could distinctly feel their mockery, scrutiny, and disregard.
What happened? Were these few men targeting her?
“Oh my. I can’t believe she’s still showing her face. If I were her, I would’ve long hidden myself.”
“How disgusting of her to toy with boys even while she was just a student.”
“And she’s apparently the top socialite goddess. Turns out she’s just a cheating bitch.”
“I wonder if Liesel would be interested in me. I’ll gladly be her toy as long as she lets me have a taste of her body.”
All the ludicrous and vulgar remarks, made by both men and women, were filled with insults. The insults then made their way to Liesel’s ears.

She slowed her steps, casting a cold gaze over them as she committed their faces to memory before continuing on her way.
“What just happened?” she asked after arriving beside Drew. She was smart enough to know that he had suppressed the matter.
While discarding the document in his hand, Drew pointed at the few then with his chin. He explained, “They’re banding together to throw mud at you.”
He then pointed at the gentle–looking teen with dyed silver hair. “This one said. betrayed him and cheated on him with other men while you two were together.‘

Then onto a muscular man with a buzz cut. “This one said he was your friends–with- benefits partner.”
“And that red–haired guy…” Alex wore a strange look while introducing him, “said you’re his first love.”
Immediately after, he let out a snort. “Now who on earth just tried to set you up like this? Obviously, they don’t know you enough to know you’d never spare these dudes a glance.”
Denzel, too, felt the same way, as the situation was simply too hilarious. They knew the truth and were aware of Liesel’s infatuation for Jacob.
All these years, she had put all her focus and time on helmics and work. Where
would she have the time to toy with men? She could barely handle Jacob alone. Eventually, Liesel gazed at the few men and said, “Call the cops on them.”
