Chapter 12
Selene fixed him with an icy gaze.
“Adrian Jennings, since the first day, I had warned you not to tell Carter about our relationship. Yet, what did you do? Also, no one has ever dared lay a finger on my daughter since the day she was born. Yet, you dare hit her?”
Selene couldn’t imagine how devastated Carter would be if he had learned of this. Her eyes showed no tenderness or compassion. She declared the end of their relationship in a stern
tone.
“Adrian, I’ll have my assistant give you a sum of money. You should travel abroad and not come back anymore.”
Adrian was sobbing a little initially, but he fell silent when he heard those words.
“Why?” he shouted. “Selene Miller, I’ve been by your side for so long. I helped take care of your daughter. We’ve slept together so many times. I even broke my leg now. I spent my best years with you. Yet, we’re ending things just because you say so? Who gave you the right to decide that?”

Selene’s tone was frigid. “You know better than me how this relationship has started. It’ll be good for the both of us if we end things amicably now.”
“No… No!”
Adrian tried to reach for Selene’s hand. He knew very well he wouldn’t get the results he wanted if he insisted on arguing with Selene now. So, he swiftly tried another approach.
With tears glistening in his eyes, Adrian sounded as if he would crumble at any moment. “You were so in love with me before! You would find ways to meet me without Carter’s knowledge. How could you bring yourself to abandon me now? Do you even have a heart, Selene?”
Adrian was kneeling on the floor and bawling his eyes out at that point. He knew this day would come since the first day he slept with Selene. Still, he found himself unable to accept. this when it was really happening.
“Adrian, I had approached you at first to have someone listen to my problems and also make you Harper’s nanny. You were the one who seduced me first.”
That was the kind of person Selene was. She could choose when she wanted to start or end an affair. Yet, she would never admit to her mistakes.
The feelings of despair swirling in Adrian were slowly replaced by rage, and he shot to his feet.
He had a mocking expression on his face as he said in a shrill voice, “I seduced you? Selene Miller, did you hear yourself? If you weren’t intrigued, you could have gone drinking with your friends. Why did you come and see me instead?
“I had simply gotten my white shirt drenched, and you were so eager to get your hands all over me. Did you really think it was just me seducing you?
“You’re the Ms. Selene Miller, who’s known to not fall for any men’s seduction. Would you have fallen so easily for the seduction of a secretary who has nothing? Even if I did it, can you really say for sure that you haven’t given me any reason to seduce you?”
Selene lifted her gaze and looked at Adrian. A cold light gleamed in her eyes.
Adrian was about to continue yelling, but a bodyguard came up to Selene just then. “Ms. Selene, Ms. Harper is awake.”
Selene directed her gaze away and turned to leave.
“Selene!”
The bodyguard standing behind Selene darted toward Adrian and covered his mouth.
In the other ward, Harper, who had gotten quite a shock, started crying as soon as she woke up. She kept asking for Carter.
Seeing how Harper couldn’t stop crying broke Selen’s heart. She put her arms around Harper. Calm down, Harper. Once you’re better, we’ll go and look for Daddy. Alright?”
Harper was not listening to Selene. Instead, she recalled her kindergarten teacher and the other kids
displayedting their fingers at her. She also remembered what Adrian said and the photos
the billboard.
“Mommy, does Daddy not want us anymore because we’ve been meeting Uncle Adrian and keeping it a secret from him?”
A young child like her couldn’t understand what an affair was. She only knew how Selene would often bring her to meet with Adrian behind Carter’s back.
Also, Harper would beg Selene to take her to Adrian’s place whenever she felt like getting some snacks or toys Carter wouldn’t allow her to have.
