Chpater 25
Harper was unhappy, but she remembered what Carter had told her before, so she wiped her
tears away.
She would be starting school soon. She couldn’t cry anymore.
When Carter kissed Nancy, the system appeared again. “Congratulations on completing the mission, Player. Would you like to return to your world?”
Carter smiled at Nancy, who smiled back. As one, they nodded. “Yes.”
A white light flashed. Everything returned to where it should be.
Back in the real world, Nancy and Carter found themselves in Jensen Villa. They were still wearing their wedding outfits. It was late night their wedding night.
The next morning, they brought Maddox over to the Jensen family home.
Before going to the other world, they had told Nancy’s parents that they were traveling abroad for their wedding.
Elena beamed when she saw their wedding photos, commenting on how beautiful they looked.
That night, Maddox slept in Elena’s room while Nancy and Carter finally got some time to
themselves.
Nancy stroked Carter’s hair as she hummed softly. “We’ll have forever ahead of us, don’t we, Carter?”
Carter smiled and took her hand. “Yes. We have forever ahead of us.”
Years passed. On their wedding anniversaries, while Maddox was at school, Nancy brought Carter to Falance. They had another wedding at the church they had first wed in the other
world.
“Why did you choose this place?” Carter asked.
Nancy kissed him and said with a smile, “Even though we were already legally married, I only really realized that you married me when I saw you at the altar with Maddox.”
“But we got married in the other world, so it’s not actually real. I wanted to get married, for real, in our real world, in the same church.
“Thank you for accepting me, Carter.”
Carter teared up suddenly. It didn’t take a lot of words to express love. Sometimes, a simple sentence was enough.
CHE
He looked at the woman before him and caressed her cheek before kissing her. “Thank you for loving me too, Nancy. May we always stay in love until we grow old.”
Meanwhile, in the other world, after Carter walked away from Selene and Harper, everything
about him vanished from the world.
Nobody remembered him, except for Selene and Harper.
To the rest of the world, Selene’s husband had died from depression after Selene cheated on him and took her daughter with her. None of them knew that Carter had returned briefly.
Frank was furious. He took custody of Harper and raised her himself, while Selene was sent back to Falance, forbidden to return without his permission.
Selene went back to the street where she had last met Carter. Adrian, once again, barrelled his car toward her. This time, she didn’t react in time and got hurt. Blood covered her entire body.
Adrian also suffered a ruptured injury due to the impact. He died on the scene before the ambulance arrived.
Even though Selene was saved, she was left paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
Under Frank’s guidance, Harper realized how detestable her mother’s past actions were and understood the gravity of her mistakes. Therefore, even after learning about Selene’s accident, she didn’t reach out at all.
Later, Selene succumbed to a bacterial infection from her amputation wounds. Harper didn’t even attend the funeral. If she could live her life again, she would rather that her mother never gave birth to her.
This was the last line in Harper’s diary–a wish that she held on to for the rest of her life.
