Chapter 7
I had no idea what Pierce said to Quincey after he took her out of the room. When she returned, her shoulders were hunched, and her face was filled with fear and despair.
Eliot had undone the buttons of his shirt and was half–reclining on the couch.
As soon as Quincey saw him, her body stiffened. Her once–glowing face became stricken with terror. She turned her head, as if she could escape the situation by doing so.
Then, suddenly, her gaze landed on me.
She rushed over and grabbed my hand. “Yasmine, help me. I don’t want to stay here with that pig. Help me pay back Mr. Holden. You have money, don’t you?”
Quincey’s grip was tight. Her hands were as cold as someone near death.
She naively thought it was just about money.
For Pierce, money was the least of his concerns. As long as he could strike a deal with Eliot, Franco, and the other company owners, even if Quincey didn’t owe him any money, he would find other ways to make her comply.
I looked at her pale, delicate face and said, “Isn’t being with Pierce exactly what you’ve always wanted?”
“No. I don’t want it anymore.” Quincey trembled as she shook her head. Even her teeth were chattering.
“Yasmine, I was wrong before. Please forgive me. Once those pigs touch me, I’ll be ruined. Help me get out of here, and Ms. Madden will introduce me to another rich man. I’ll pay you back. I promise.”
Quincey trusted Bianca so much, but to Bianca, she was no different from those women. who had just gone out. At best, she was a more polished version who could make more
money.
I pried open Quincey’s fingers one by one.
In my previous life, she did the same thing after crashing into me. She slowly kicked my phone from my hand and left me to die in a pool of blood.
The terrifying sensation of feeling life slip away in excruciating pain was still vivid in my memory.
“Quincey, this is the life you chose. With your looks, your future would have been bright if you had focused on studying and working. You might even marry into a wealthy family. But your ambition was too great, and you’re too dumb. You fell for Bianca’s tricks.”
I pried her last finger away, stood up, and walked out.

Behind me, I heard her frantic, hysterical screams. “Damn you, Yasmine Scott! I’ll tell Mom and Dad about this! They won’t let
you
off!”
She had ruined her own life and now blamed me for it. But this time, she wouldn’t be able
to hurt me anymore.
As I walked out of the club, Pierce was waiting by his Rolls–Royce. “Let me take you home, Ms. Scott.” There was no driver. He opened the door for me.
However, I didn’t move.
He chuckled softly. “Ms. Scott, you didn’t help Quincey yourself. Do you think you have the right to despise me? Get in. I’m still your client‘
On the dashboard was a yellowed photo, showing a little boy and girl standing side by side outside a villa, with the blue ocean in the background.
The boy’s features resembled Pierce’s, and the girl looked familiar, too.
Pierce glanced at the photo and said softly, “That’s the last photo I took with my sister, Danielle. The next morning, her body was found by fishermen at the beach. If she were alive today, she’d be almost 30 years old.”
I stared at the girl in the photo who was smiling brightly, suddenly realizing that she resembled me in some ways.
Pierce looked at the 120–second red light ahead and continued, “My dad used to be a vegetable vendor. After he married the mayor’s daughter, he started an import business and made a lot of money. Then, he divorced her and married the bank president’s daughter “When he became the wealthiest man in the city, he divorced her, too, and married my mom. The three sons from his previous marriage lived in the same house as us. They looked down on my mom, and even more so on Danielle and me.”
Pierce reached out and straightened the crooked photo.
“My mom was young and beautiful back then, and my dad spoiled Danielle and me. He joked that he would hand Holden Group over to me.
“The sons of his ex–wives heard this and tried to poison me, but Danielle drank the poisoned water instead. She died from poisoning, and my dad threw her body into the sea, saying she drowned while playing.
“I wanted to avenge Danielle, but my three brothers were bigger than me. They almost slit my throat with a knife.”
Pierce loosened the collar of his shirt, revealing the scar on his neck.
