Chapter 9
The city was not large, and by the next day, explosive rumors of the scandal had already spread everywhere.
Mr. Zimmer did not dare report it to the police, let alone pursue any legal action. He quietly checked into his own hospital for treatment, claiming he had fallen and injured himself.
The nurses, however, could not contain their giggles as they gossiped among themselves.” Fallen? With handprints all over his face?”
Blair was too ashamed to return to work and clung to Liam like a lifeline. “It was all Mr. Zimmer’s fault. He coerced me. He’s my boss, what was I supposed to do?”
I stood outside, listening to their conversation, deep in thought. It wasn’t enough. That scumbag Liam still needed one final blow. Luckily, I had already prepared for it.
An hour later, I waited by Liam’s car. His anger seemed to have cooled somewhat, with Blair clinging closely behind him. When they saw me, Blair’s face flushed with both shame and anger.
“You got what you wanted. What more do you want?”
I stared at her coldly. “What more? Liam, have you signed the divorce papers yet?”
Liam tossed the papers at my feet. “Layla, I’m done with you. From now on, we’re over. I owe you nothing!”
I let out a cold laugh. “You don’t owe me, but you owe Mia!
“From start to finish, you never once said sorry to her or asked about her well–being. In your heart, Sophia was always your favorite daughter, wasn’t she? Mia and I never meant anything to you!
Liam sneered. “And what if that’s true? Don’t flatter yourself. If Blair hadn’t gone abroad all those years ago, I would’ve never settled for you,
“And you hid how rich your family was for years, watching me struggle to make ends meet. Where was your conscience then?”
I laughed bitterly, my anger rising. “Liam, listen to yourself. It was you who said you didn’t want to live off others. You were the one who insisted we forge our own path. I cut off all contact with my family for seven years for the sake of your pride, and now you want to blame me?
“Hate me all you want, but what about Mia? She’s your own daughter! What does she mean to you? You were willing to sacrifice her for someone else’s child!”
Before Liam could respond, Blair, growing increasingly nervous, urged him. “Liam, don’t

listen to her. Let’s go.
As she spoke, she forcefully shoved Liam into the car. Then she stood in front of the car, glaring at me with a threatening look.
Liam sat in the driver’s seat with a dark expression. I tossed two reports through his window and stepped into the car Zac had sent for me.
I glared coldly at Liam’s furious face. “Liam, take a good look at those.”
Ignoring Blair’s attempts to stop him, Liam opened the two reports. One was a paternity test between him and Sophia. The other was a paternity test between Sophia and Mr. Zimmer.
Through the car window, I watched as Liam’s eyes widened in shock, his face contorting in disbelief. The reports made it clear that Sophia was not his daughter. She was Mr. Zimmer’s.
Liam’s hands trembled as he held the papers, and then he let out an anguished roar. “Blair! You wretch, you lied to me!
“You said Mr. Zimmer forced you, but you used me this whole time and made me your fool!
Blair’s face went pale as she tried to defend herself. “Liam, it’s not true! These reports are fake. Please, let me explain!”
But Liam, overwhelmed by the relentless blows of betrayal, lost all control. He slammed his foot on the gas and drove straight into Blair.
“Ah!”
Blair only had time to let out a single scream before being crushed beneath the car, blood splattering everywhere.
Still not satisfied, Liam reversed, then drove forward again, running over Blair’s body once more. Her arms jerked mechanically as more blood poured out.
“Wretch! You deserve to die!” Liam screamed as he continued to drive over her.
Blair’s body was soon a mangled mess beneath the wheels.
I turned away, telling the driver, “Call the police.”
That day, I left the city with the signed divorce papers, never intending to return. At the state hospital, I tearfully embraced Mia, who had finally opened her eyes. Tears streamed down my face.
Mia tried to lift her hand to wipe away my tears “Mommy, who was that man just now?”
I looked over at Zac. “That’s your uncle. Look, your grandparents are waiting outside the

door too.
“You always said the other kids had grandparents. Well, now you have them too. They love you very, very much.”
A smile spread across Mia’s face. “Really? That’s amazing! I’ll be good. They’ll like me for sure!”
My parents could not hold back their emotions any longer and rushed in with Zac, holding Mia’s hands. “We’ll be here for you until you’re discharged.”
In this life, I had finally saved my daughter.
As for Liam’s fate, I saw it on the crime report on the news.
After the police were called, Liam fled the scene and eventually made his way to the hospital where Mr. Zimmer was staying. He grabbed a metal stool from the room and smashed Mr. Zimmer’s head to pieces.
Sophia was also a patient at the same hospital, and Liam had found her room. But in the end, he could not bring himself to harm her.
After pacing and hesitating, he finally jumped out of the window, ending his life with nothing left behind.
I calmly turned off the news.
From now on, Mia and I would start a new life.
In the warmth of our family, we would make up for all the regrets of the past.
