On the day of the party, Chloe appeared in a
glamorous gown.
I sat on the patio in a t–shirt and sweatpants,
enjoying the breeze.
The door opened, and Chloe walked out with
a group of people.
“Oh, Ashley! What are you doing here? You’re
not even dressed?”
Chloe feigned surprise, covering her mouth as
she looked at me.
Behind her were a group of rich kids, all with
the same air of arrogance and disdain.
Someone sneered, “What a hillbilly. Doesn’t

く
“Chloe, your family took in this ignorant, crazy
foster kid? Doing charity work?”
Chloe said innocently, “Don’t be mean. She’s
still my sister. If she gets upset, who knows

Everyone looked at Chloe, some with
resentment.
Chloe quickly said, “Ashley, I thought you just
hated me! You can hurt me, but these people
are innocent!”
“I’ll apologize! Please don’t be mad!”
She took two champagne flutes from a
waiter’s tray, looking at me pathetically.
I looked at the champagne, then at Chloe’s
innocent face. I picked up a glass and threw
the contents in her face.
“Chloe, you don’t really think I’m afraid to kill
you, do you?”
Chloe opened her mouth to speak, then
thought better of it, clamping her lips shut as
she frantically wiped the champagne from her
face.
“You’re a lunatic! I’ll get you out of here
eventually!”
I smiled. “Hurry up then. Go accept your
