Whitney had spent plenty of time around the Howards, but in all that time, she had never seen Emily show any genuine concem for Helena
Helena herself rarely mentioned her parents when she was with Whitney and Yvette. The most Whitney remembered was that after the Howards had broken off Helena’s engagement to the Tyson family, Emily had spent weeks nitpicking her daughter over everything.

Emily was clearly aware of parts of the investigation, yet she blamed Whitney. Her anger escalated as she spoke, and she cased her hand again.

Noel was dressed in a pale blue–and–white striped hospital gown. His complexion was ashen, his lips nearly colorless. His sharp, deep features appeared even more claseled after his obvious weight loss. His posture remained straight, and his presence commanded the room with the same intensity as ever

Howard Group’s stock had taken a significant hit recently, and the board of directos deleted Daman and blamed Samuel for his actions. No one listened to Samuel anymore, and his authority as chairman within the company had all but disappeared.
With his son gone and his position in the company gone, Samuel turned to drinking. Every night, he would lash out at Emily when he was drunk–both with words and his fists.
