No matter how much they mocked me, I just continued eating my kebab.
Yasmine impatiently urged from the door, “Dad, let’s go already! This woman really looks like she’s hit rock bottom. Let’s not waste any more time here. I’ve got dinner with Stephen Salvador at 5.30!”
Lana slapped her thigh. “Exactly! Now that Yasmine’s caught Stephen’s eye, with his support, our company will keep getting stronger. Soon, everyone in the city will have to listen to us!”
Harlan’s eyes lit up with excitement. He rubbed his hands together and said, “You mean Stephen Salvador from the Salvador Group, the commercial genius who turned around Citigroup in just a week and saved it from the brink of bankruptcy?”
Yasmine lifted her chin proudly, a smug expression on her face. “Who else could it be? So many women have tried to get Stephen’s attention but didn’t even get a good look. Yet, as soon as I showed up, he agreed right away. What does that say? It says that he and I are a match made in heaven! When I become Mrs. Salvador, my wealth will be limitless! And by then, I won’t have to worry about our company’s future!”
What a joke. I spent so much money sending Yasmine abroad for her education, yet she didn’t learn a thing. After taking over the Roberts Group for just a week, the three of them drained all the funds on the books, plunging the company into a financial crisis.
Later, Yasmine made her mark by sabotaging several big contracts, and within a month, the Roberts Group had to sell off several pieces of land. At this point, the company appears glossy and well–oiled, but inside it’s a hollow shell, full of holes.

Yasmine lifted her skirt and prepared to leave. “Let’s go. I’m afraid we’ll catch some of this poverty if we stay too long!”
Harlan quickly agreed, “Yes, yes, let’s hurry. Stephen’s waiting for Yasmine, and our wonderful life is waiting for us!”
I lowered my eyelids, listening to their relentless laughter, and silently finished the last bite of kebab on my plate.
