Lana looked at me warily. “What are you trying to pull now?”
Harlan stepped in front of the mother and daughter, shielding them. “If you have a problem, take it out on me! Don’t make things difficult for my love and our child!”
The reporters and shareholders watching us all stared at me intently.
I removed the tourmaline pendant from around my neck–a piece I had always kept close–and handed it to Yasmine. “This is the tourmaline heirloom of the Roberts family. It’s only passed down to daughters, not sons. Even though you’re not my biological child, in my heart, you’re no different from my own.
“I hope this tourmaline heirloom will protect your health and ensure a lífe free of worries. And I also hope the three of you will live in harmony and happiness forever.”
Yasmine froze, unsure of how to respond to my words.
Lana snapped out of it first and reached out to snatch the pendant, trying to smash it. “Do you think a piece of useless rock can sow discord between us? Dream on, Dana!”
However, Harlan was quicker. He protected the tourmaline pendant and shouted at Lana, “Are you insane? This is the Roberts family heirloom! It’s made of top–quality paraiba tourmaline, a priceless treasure. Do you even understand that?”
The onlookers, too far away to clearly see the pendant, were stunned by his words nonetheless.
“What’s wrong with Dana Roberts? Has she lost her mind from the shock?”
“Exactly! Instead of tearing apart this scumbag and his mistress, she gives them the family heirloom? Has she gone brain–dead?”
