Chapter 205
“I haven’t been back to Hork for many years. The last time we met was at your wedding with Alastor,” the woman said softly, her tone gentle.
Even though she knew Anastasia was somewhat hostile, she still smiled gently, “I heard you got injured, so I came to see how you’re doing”
The woman’s name was Madeline Brandt, and she was very pretty and had a smart appearance.
She had all the qualities that Naomi was missing. She was kind, sensible, cultured, and elegant.
It was a pity that she had questionable values, poor character, and interfered with other families.
“We have nothing between us. You don’t need to check on me,” Anastasia frowned, clearly aware that Madeline was here to create discord.
Felicia stayed in the ward next door, and Naomi now absolutely adored her. If Madeline visited, Felicia would surely exaggerate things to Naomi.
Then, it would inevitably
bly turn into another chaotic situation.
“Annie, I mean no harm.” Madeline whispered, entering the ward and putting down the gifts. “I brought you some snacks. They’re not expensive, but I know you like them”
Anastasia glanced at the fruits, most of which were expensive and her favorites
When she was younger, she used to stand by a fruit stall, waiting for people to leave so she could pick up the discarded overripe fruits to take home and eat.
She loved fruit, but Alastor didn’t, so she rarely bought it just for herself, preferring to cater to his tastes. In the past, she truly lived for others.
Anastasia’s face fell as she looked at Madeline with cold eyes. I’m of no use to you so don’t bother. And even if Alastor and I have our differences, 1 won’t side with you against him.”
She just couldn’t bring herself to do it. Madeline was undoubtedly much smarter than Naomi by a long shot. She definitely didn’t come here today on a whim.
“Annie, I really didn’t mean anything by it. You’ve misunderstood me,” Madeline’s eyes reddened as she hesitated to continue.
Anastasia just felt Madeline was putting on an act. “Putting on a show for Christian is one thing, but coming to me? That’s overdoing it”
Anastasia laughed in frustration. They had only met twice in total, and this was only their second meeting
The previous time was when Christian took Madeline to the Lopez residence to meet Andrea, Andrea kicked them out, and Naomi made a huge scene, so the meeting was far from pleasant.
Anastasia and Madeline didn’t really have much interaction. She had absolutely no reason to come and see Anastasia. Even if she was here to cause trouble, it felt a bit intentional.
“Annie, your mom and I… used to be best friends. We were childhood friends and grew up together. I don’t know if she ever mentioned me to you,” Madeline said.
Madeline was silent for a long time. It was only when she saw that Anastasia remained cautious that she finally spoke softly,
Anastasia was taken aback. Her expression suddenly turned dark, and she looked at Madeline warily, wondering, ‘What did she mean by that?
“Sue and I grew up in the same neighborhood. We used to be best friends,” Madeline whispered,
Anastasia didn’t believe it. She had never heard her mom mention Madeline. Maybe Madeline found a wealthy man and stopped keeping in touch.
“Look. Here’s a picture of your mom and me,” Madeline showed Anastasia the photo
Anastasia stared at it for a long time. It was indeed true. It was an old faded photo, rephotographed on a phone, but she could tell that Madeline
treasured in
In the photo, Madeline and Anastasia’s mom, Sue Lawson, appeared to be around fifteen or sixteen, exuding the kind of natural youthful beauty that was typical for their era.
“I don’t know you, and I’ve never heard my mom mention you, so please leave,” Anastasia said in a low voice, wanting nothing to do with Madeline or anyone from the Lopez family.
“Anastasia,” Madeline said softly after a pause, I really have no ill intentions.”
Anastasia averted her gaze. “In any case, you hold a special status. I’m Alastor’s wife, so please leave.
Before getting the divorce certificate, Anastasia couldn’t afford more trouble or get entangled in their mess.
