Chapter 209
“Mr. Lopez,” Lionel answered the phone.
“I instructed you to deliver three meals a day to Mrs Lopez. Where did you send them?” Alastor’s voice was deep and carried a hint of anger.
“Mr. Lopez, I deliver three meals each day without fail, Lionel whispered.
Alastor instinctively glances at Anastasia.
Anastasia gave a weak smile. She was now able to easily read Alastor’s mind.
He instinctively trusted Lionel but refused to trust her
“Are you sure you delivered them?” Alastor asked again.
“I did, Mr. Lopez, but every time Mrs. Lopez throws it out, saying she won’t eat it.. Lionel continued lying
Anastasia knew Lionel was in league with Felicia and had disliked her from the very beginning.
Married to Alastor for four years, Anastasia was aware that Lionel had been spreading rumors about her all along.
At the time, she didn’t take it seriously. Lionel was just an assistant, after all. There was no way Alastor would trust an assistant over his own wife. Yet the reality was shocking.
Alastor hung up the phone, quietly looked at Anastasia, and sighed.
His attitude was obviously one of resignation. “Anastasia, even if you’re upset with me, you shouldn’t skip meals.”
“Why would I skip meals? I eat very well. Jason cooks delicious meals and light chowder for me every day. Why would you think I’m not eating!” Anastasia felt a bit drained, thinking Alastor would never change.
“Are you just trying to irritate me?” Alastor’s frustration grew.
*Don’t think too highly of yourself. I can’t irritate you” Anastasia was really at a loss for words as it was clearly her who was upset.
“What do you want to eat! I’ll have the chef prepare something and send it over, alright Alastor coaxed softly
“Go to the reception and check the security cameras. See where Lionel has been sending his meals three times a day. Go on Anastasia shouted, pointing toward the door.
She went on, “How bad am I in your view that no matter what happens, your first reaction is always to distrust me?”
Anastasia was also curious about what she had done to make Alastor so wary of her. Alastor’s caution also showed a hint of restraint.
These past four years, even though they were married, Anastasia knew that Alastor was trying his best to control his desires. Even though they slept in the same bed, he rarely touched her.
If he hadn’t been wasted and lost control, he and Anastasia probably wouldn’t have had a baby.
Back then, Anastasia thought that platonic love seemed quite nice. Later, she realized from Felicia that a man who truly loved her couldn’t conceal his desires in front of her. But Alastor, on the other hand, had excellent self–control.
Alastor was briefly stunned, looking at Anastasia. After a long silence, he turned and left the ward.
This time, he seemed to have chosen to trust Anastasia and went to check the surveillance footage.
Anastasia just felt helpless, wondering if this was her fault. Maybe she was really a lousy person and not worth trusting
Not long after, Alastor returned. His face was grim as he walked into the ward, loosened his tic, and sat beside Anastasia. “Annie…
“Did you check it?” Anastasia looked at Alastor, her eyes welling up.
Tim sorry.. Alastor apologized again.
“Tell me one reason. What exactly made you keep misunderstanding me?” Anastasia just wanted an explanation
Alastor looked down, his Adam’s apple moving as he hesitated to speak. “Annie…” Alastor sull couldn’t bring himself to say it

“Forget it. Go ahead and leave.” Anastasia didn’t want to dig deeper. She was so tired.
“What do y you feel like eating?” Alastor held Anastasia’s hand.
“No need. Jason will bring me food later. Anastasia pulled her hand away.
“He’s not coming back…” Alastor said in a low voice.
Anastasia frowned, looking at Alastor with strong anger. “What do you mean?”
“He won’t be coming over for a while…” Alastor looked at Anastasia. “Anastasia, you can’t give him the value he’s after. Whoever offers him more, that’s who he’ll go with. I saw him leaving with Kimberly, and honestly, her offer suits him better.”
